:applause: :applause:

This information is very helpful Tax, especially paired with that interactive calculator you made awhile ago and shared with the forum. I think anyone who is serious about making a homemade diet will be off to a great start after reading this post. I like that you also encouraged the hybrid diet because of the reasons you listed.

Thank you so much for all of the time and energy you put into this! (And for making it easy for anyone to understand.  :shy: )

OMG, is this the real hopping hammy, I really love her! ☺️

I mean, where do you get 40% protein in soybeans?

First post: Perhaps it’s something to do with the computer you’re using? Anyways, I honestly don’t really like calculating by hand anyways; I typically prefer using an excel sheet. There’s a link to one in here (in green titled “Interactive Guaranteed Analysis Calculator”) just keep in mind you’ll probably want way more than 15 ingredients in a homemade diet, so you may need to make your own excel sheet. :)
http://hamsterhideout.com/forum/topic/102287-hamster-nutrition-iii-calculating-the-guaranteed-analysis-of-a-mixed-diet/

2. (Let me check the article there...not sure what you’re getting at)

3. Many food databases list the nutritional content of foods. I’m currently using the USDA’s database and I really like it; it’s not super in depth but it’s enough to get the GA out of.
https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/
Not sure what the regulations are in your country, but at least in the US the nutritional label on the back of food packages also has this information. Just be sure to use the grams per serving and not the daily value %. :)

Edit: still can’t find where it says 667...which subsection was it in?

I mistyped. Sorry .... I see in food data center protein is calculated per 100 grams, so is 40% = 400 grams ??

You right. Maybe have to make it yourself😞. I'll try to calculate manually, maybe I'll ask again later.

Here’s the link to the USDA database’s page on soybeans: https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/fdc-app.html#/food-details/174270/nutrients

So, if you look at the top, it says 100g. Then, if you look further down the page, it says there are 36.49 (or about 40) grams of protein. So, that means soybeans are 36.49% protein by weight. Keep in mind “percent” can be broken down into “per cent”, or “per 100”. So, for every 100 grams of soybean, there are 36.49 grams of protein, or you could say soybeans are 36.49 percent (per 100) protein. You cannot have more than 100g of protein because that’s the amount of soybeans you started with.

I hope that helps a bit with the math!

Is there a longer version of the excel sheet? Or can someone help me set up the functions in excel? I have more than 15 ingredients in my mix!

Just made a copy of the format I use for my mixes here. If it doesn't let you copy the document let me know! :)

How do you share a Google spreadsheet like this without it showing your name and email address? I've been working on something for The Gerbil Forum and can't work that bit out.

I just made an account that uses my pseudonym. Not sure how to do the thing Tax did though; might only be able to do it Excel.

I know that, at least for google stuff, when clicking the share button to get a link there should be an option to hide personal info :)
