Hi everyone,

It has come to my attention that tinypic.com has been reusing URLs from old deleted photos. That means photos that are hosted on a particular link may not show a broken link when the tinypic user's account has been deleted or when they choose to delete that photo from their account. Instead, it will show the new photo of whoever may be using the URL in future!

For example:

2014: User A uploads Hamster Photo A on tinypic and links it in Topic A on Hamster Hideout.

2015: User A deletes Hamster Photo A from tinypic.

2016: User B uploads Hamster Photo B to tinypic (tinypic happens to reuse the URL from Photo A)

2016: Everyone who looks at Topic A now will see Hamster Photo B instead of a broken image link!

Since we have no way of controlling what type of images get hosted on the tinypic link in future, we have no choice but to block this hosting site now.

Please look for an alternative site to host your photos before linking them to your HH topic or profile. I do not recommend that you use tinypic elsewhere too.

HH members can recommend and share here, which other sites you like to use for hosting your photos. Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks for looking out for us, dusty! I personally don't use tinypic, but I can only imagine what a nightmare that would be :worried:

I occasionally noticed that someone would have a completely different image then what they were intending.and it was always when they used tinypic. This makes so much sense now!

Oh gosh, this seems like it would've been a disaster waiting to happen if it hadn't been addressed. *shudders*

I know a lot of people aren't down for making accounts, but I do think it's worth making an account at photobucket. You get all your pictures there in one place. You make your albums private so people can only see that one picture you shared with them, not the rest of your album, and you can even turn on an option that won't allow people to right click and save your image. Not to mention you can also edit and resize your images there.

Totally agree! I love photobucket!

OMG! I was recently having problems with this and had no idea why! Now I know... Thank you Dusty. :) But why doesn't my Photobucket work any more? :scratchchin: Also do the pictures from TInyPic that were already posted get affected? Or just when someone posts a new one?

I had a problem with TinyPic where I uploaded a photo, and it showed a photo that wasn't even mine! XD I have just one question. :) If we have used TinyPic in the past, do we need to change all of our pictures to PhotoBucket, or is it alright to keep them like they are?

I'm actually glad Tinypic is finally blocked, because it has caused so many problems for people in the past and its just not worth the time anyway.

It seemed to me like most people were using tinypic just to avoid making another account for uploading photos, but an account on a photo uploading website is a very useful thing to have on this forum and an investment in a way too because it can be useful for other website and such as well :)

I like to upload photos onto Facebook, and set the privacy as "Only Me"- then just right-click and get the image URL :)

I don't have time to explain jing, but it's what I use and here is the site-https://www.techsmith.com/jing.html

It will explain everything, and you can also make short five minute videos, it is also free! :D

To clarify, only tinypic.com has been blocked. Photobucket and other sites can still be used. If you have old posts on HH with pictures using tinypic.com, it would be greatly appreciated if you could edit them and change them to a different host. :)

What are the different sites that can be used for uploading photos aside from photobucket? I tried using postimage.com, but it keeps resizing my banner.

If it helps, I primarily use Imgur :) I do use photobucket, but only as a backup when imgur isn't working and I need to upload something right away.

really? so you can use Facebook like any other photo-hosting site?

can you do this using your phone or tablet too? or do you have to use a mouse to click the specific way you describe?

Yeah as long as you have an account, you can upload a photo (change the privacy settings to "Only Me" when doing so) on your phone, tablet or computer. Then go on the computer and right click and open it in a new tab, and you'll have a URL :)
