Hi everyone,
I know some of you are unhappy with the mass bans that have taken place because they are your friends and you feel that they have been wronged. It actually started with just a few cases, but quickly escalated to much more. I strongly urge other members who may not have the full picture of what is going on, that you do not join in the behaviour of those who had been banned or try to protest on their behalf. The 3-point warning system is in place so that the mod team can track past warnings of a member. If a member has broken a particular rule in a severe enough manner, they can certainly be banned outright without fulfilling the full 3 points. Also, prior warnings may include past PMs or in-post notes that may not include a warning point. Bans and warnings are all given based on a system that has been worked out among the mod team and refined over the years. As these are internal protocols, we are unable to share the inner workings of the mod team in further detail. Just because the mod team is not online does not mean we do not receive reports through other channels. We hope that you understand and appreciate the tremendous amount of work that goes into moderating the forum behind the scenes.
Let me reiterate a few simple guidelines:
- You do not get banned merely for expressing your opinions; You get banned for expressing your opinions in a forceful or rude manner by putting others down.
- You do not get banned for standing up for what you believe in; You get banned for inciting hatred among the community.
- You do not get banned for being a popular member; You get banned for becoming a ring-leader by gathering popular opinion to pursue your own agenda which goes against the larger community.
- You do not get banned just because dusty does not like you; You get banned for disrespecting the rules of the forum.
Here at Hamster Hideout, we advocate the best hamster care that you can provide within your means and we will never turn anyone away just because they are unable to meet so-called standards for hamster care. We are always looking out for newbies to help them and we are glad that they care enough for their hamsters to sign up on the forum to ask questions in the first place.
Please continue to participate in the community by helping everyone out in a welcoming, friendly and mentoring manner!
Love your hammies!
