Hi!
Okay so I have a story.. and idk I thought maybe I’d post it on here because maybe some people would like it? :/ Also, as the story goes on, the title “spoiled” probably won’t make as much sense, but I’m terrible at titling things so if it doesn’t make sense just kind of pretend that it’s a better title. Anyway, definitely let me know if you want more of this story, because, there’s not really a point in posting of nobody’s gonna read it! Anyway, I’ll stop rambling and I hope you enjoy it!
Chapter one

I will definately be the first to admit I’m spoiled. Spoiled, entitled, privileged, rich, whatever you want to call it. All of those words apply to me. Even if I don’t want to admit it, it’s true. What I really can’t stand the thought of being called is a spoiled brat, or “ Daddy’s little girl”, or a rich kid of snapchat. God, I hate the rich kids of snapchat. Not personally though, I hate the things they post online. Yeah, I live in a big house with a pool and my Mom has an expensive car and a maid. Even though I have Snapchat, I barely use it that often. And I never post pictures of watches, or expensive cars or using hundred dollar bills as firestarters. Nothing like that.
Actually, having rich parents isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I’m still a normal person, I’m still human. Most people automatically think bad things about me. If they don’t use me, that is. One time, a girl faked being my friend so she could use my Mom’s money to buy expensive stuff at the mall. The next day, she went to school and spread a rumor that I shoplifted, and my parents did nothing about it. Nobody but my best friend talked to me for the rest of the school year. It was September.

I sprinted down the stairs, attempting to throw my hair up into a ponytail because I couldn’t t find my hairbrush. Don’t ask where it went since yesterday, because I don’t know. I saw it right before I fell asleep, but when I went to get it this morning, it was gone. “Running late again, Isabella?” Mia asked as I crashed into the kitchen counter in my sock feet. Mia’s the one maid Mom has. Mia’s in her early thirties and just had her baby last year. I’ve always looked up to Mia, I always thought she was way prettier, way cooler, and way smarter than me. She’s the one that taught me how to do almost everything related to cooking and cleaning. Mom would never let me clean anything, because “ That’s what Mia is paid to do” but when I was in second grade, I’d begged her to teach me how to wipe down a table. “ We were in art class and cleaning up to go to recess, and the whole entire class was mad at me because I didn’t clean off our table in time. We had to wait an extra five minutes to leave. Nobody told me how to do it.” I’d said one day. Yes, I was an incredibly stupid little kid. But Mia ( reluctantly) taught me how to wipe down a table, and make my bed, and all the things a normal person should be able to do to take care of themselves. She also makes sure I keep my life together. “Oh, yeah, I kind of ended up looking for my volunteer shirt and hairbrush for two hours” I said sheepishly while tying my shoes. Mia laughed a little bit. “ Two hours, and you still are running late? What were you doing up so-” her face fell and she stopped cleaning the sink to look up at me. “ Did you have a nightmare again?” she asked quietly. “ Uh, yes, and I woke up an hour before my alarm went off. Just, please don’t tell my Mom! She’ll just send me back to the therapist again, and I can promise you a couple of stupid sock puppet shows are not going to help me at all.” Mia nodded reluctantly. “Okay, fine. But you do need help if it makes you get less sleep and hey, did you eat breakfast?” she said as I stood up. “Um, no. But, it’s fine I’m not hungry. I won’t be able to eat while I’m riding my bike to the animal shelter anyway.Alright, bye Mia, have a good day!” I said a bit too cheerfully as I attempted to walk out the door. “Oh no you don’t!” Mia yelled. She tossed a granola bar at me. “Breakfast” she commanded. “ And you’re not riding your bike to the animal shelter. Addy and Ryan’s mom is going to pick you up any minute.” I resisted the urge to groan. Not because of Addy and Ryan. They’re twin brother and sister. Addy is my best friend, and Ryan is in the same club we’re in at school. He’s pretty cool, and all three of us are volunteering at the animal shelter this summer, because even though we’re only thirteen, the service club at our school lets us volunteer at places like that, where you’re technically supposed to sixteen to volunteer.
“Mrs. Henderson is picking me up? In her car? Why?” Mia nodded. “Yes, she’s picking you up in her car. The route you normally take on your bike is blocked off by construction today, so it’s safer for you to ride in a car.” I made a face. “ Really? I’m sorry, it’s just I haven’t actually been in car since last year when you-know-what happened. Are you sure I can’t just walk?” Mia shook her head. “Isabella. You can’t go your entire life without riding in a car. What will you do when you are an adult and there’s no public transport where you live? Bike your kid to school? Everything will be fine, okay? And if you really can’t handle it after today, then you can ride your bike through the woods. Okay?” I sighed. “Okay” I said, even though I could already feel myself shaking. I felt my phone vibrate in my hand. “They’re outside now. I guess I’d better go. See you tomorrow. And thank you.” Mia waved goodbye. “ See you tomorrow! And hey, eat that granola bar!”

Cool story, but when she was describing herself as rich, spoiled, etc. I noted that I wouldn’t want to hang out with somebody like that.

Also, just a suggestive tip, you really should separate your dialogue so it doesn’t get confusing. Like as different paragraphs instead of putting them all in one. :)

Thanks, and yeah, that’s kinda the point I’m * attempting* to make. She knows that people see her in a certain way, and she feels like she has to try extra hard to make it seem like she isn’t selfish or a brat or something. ( I know it probably won’t make a lot of sense now right now, I’ll try to touch more on that later.
Thanks for the dialogue thing! I’ll try to make it less confusing in the next chapters.

I really like this story and hope you make more soon! I'm guessing she got in a car accident?

I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I’m gonna try to get the next chapter up soon, so yeah. :)

Alright so, I have chapter two right here. One thing I think I should mention, Kona ice is basically a shaved ice truck that people can rent out for fairs, schools, birthday parties, etc. The flavoring you use for the ice ( in the opinion of me and my friends) tastes slightly awful and drinking it would be an absolute nightmare. If it makes more sense for you, then imagine drinking an entire bottle of children’s Tylenol. Also, sorry if this chapter is super long, I couldn’t really find a place that would make sense to end a chapter on. Anyway, here it is and I really hope you enjoy!
Chapter Two
Come on, you can do this. It’s fine. It’s fine. I repeated to myself as I walked out to the driveway. My heart was pounding so loud in my ears I was sure that Mia could hear it on the other side of the house, and my hands were so clammy it felt like I just stuck them in a bowl of hot water. Was I tearing up a bit? Maybe. Everything did look a little blurry. Maybe I just need glasses. Yea, that’s what it was. I needed glasses now. Glasses for a condition where my eyes start spontaneously watering at the mere thought of riding in a car. Yes, it’s definitely a real thing.
Ryan was sitting in the passenger seat, next to Mrs. Henderson at the wheel. Addy was sitting in the backseat. She leaned over and opened the door on my side. “Hey Isabella! Come on in!” I instinctively stepped back and gasped a little bit.
“Oh,I’m sorry. God, I’m an idiot. Look, uh, there’s nothing to worry about. My Mom’s a really good driver, and there’s not a bunch of traffic today.”
I smiled a little bit. Mrs. Henderson looked nice enough. She looked a lot like Addy and Ryan, with brown eyes and curly black hair. Just because a person is a good driver doesn’t mean something bad can’t happen. I really, really didn’t want to get in the car. I’d rather run six miles or drink an entire bottle of Kona ice flavoring. I could feel the lump forming in my throat. I could feel my eyes watering. No. Without thinking too hard about it, I dove into the car and slammed the door shut. With shaking hands, I clipped in my seatbelt. Addy and Ryan cheered. I laughed a little bit, sinking myself into the corner, attempting to make myself as tiny as possible. Mrs.Henderson pulled out of the driveway.
My entire body was tense, almost like I was bracing myself for impact. The whole way, Addy talked about the animal shelter. We’d already been going there for a week, so we were pretty familiar with everything. She talked about this big Saint Bernard who always dug a big hole in the yard, and the hamster that always bit her when she went to feed it. I used to want to get a hamster. I did the research. I got the supplies. I was going to get it soon, but then my Dad died. Then I angrily threw out all the supplies because I couldn’t bring myself to get one. Not when he was the one who convinced my Mom to let me get a hamster in the first place.
Everything was going fine. It was all going fine. But then I heard brakes. Brakes screeching. That awful iiiiiirrrkkk!! Sound. I personally think that sound is even worse than nails on a chalkboard, or silverware on a plate. The car slammed on the brakes, and my head slammed into the passenger seat in front of me. Without thinking, I screamed. Only a little bit though. For a second, I swore I could see the other car and dented metal, and the shattered glass flying everywhere..
“Isabella? Are you okay?”Addy called to me. I hadn’t noticed how there were tears in my eyes and I kept gasping like I’d just run a marathon. “ Me? Yeah, I-I’m totally fine. Just great! On a completely unrelated note, what just happened and are we almost to the animal shelter?” Addy opened her mouth to say something, but she was cut off by her mom.
“Oh, great job you stupid idiot! Ride off into the sunset now! Learn to drive again, you selfish mother-!”
“Sorry” Mrs. Henderson said sheepishly.
Finally, we got to the animal shelter. As soon as the car was parked, I threw open the door and practically leaped out onto the sturdy, safe pavement of the parking lot. Realizing that I had just leaped out of Mrs. Henderson’s car with literally no explanation, I stepped closer to the open door.
“ Thank you for driving me, Mrs. Henderson. And I’m sorry that I screamed while you were driving.” I said, as politely as I possibly could. Mrs. Henderson smiled.
“ You’re welcome. Alright I’ll pick you guys up at three, Have fun you guys!”
Addy and Ryan had gotten out of the car by now. We started walking into the animal shelter, mostly laughing and making jokes.
“Good morning Ms.Tina!” Addy said, with a big smile on her face. She was always so cheerful, definitely a “glass half full” kind of person. She’s the kind of person that can always make you laugh, no matter how awful you feel.
“Good morning guys! Sign in and I’ll give you your list of things to get done, but first, I have to introduce you to somebody.” Ms. Tina replied. Ms. Tina sort of works at the front desk of the animal shelter. I’m not completely sure what she does, but I know she takes calls, sets up fundraisers and adoption events, keeps track of money, and a whole bunch of other things.
We all signed in on the clipboard. After that, a woman walked into the room. When she saw us, specifically me, she scowled. I don’t know why, though. Were we doing something wrong?
The woman walked closer to us, and stopped in front of Ms.Tina’s desk. “Addy, Ryan, Isabella, this is Mrs. DeWyatt. She’s the new owner of this animal shelter. Mrs. DeWyatt, these are the volunteers from the middle school I told you about.”
Mrs Dewyatt narrowed her eyes. “You didn’t tell me that the volunteers were children, Tina” she said, eyeing us coldly.
“Well, I’m sure you’ll find that these three are very helpful” Ms. Tina tried to explain. Mrs. DeWyatt made direct eye contact with me.
“You. Who’s your mother?” she asked sharply.
I took a deep breath. “My mother is Rebecca Jenson.” I answered plainly. I had a feeling this woman would be able to find something to get upset about at anything I said,so I knew I had to be careful.
“And who’s your father?”
I looked down, then back up at her. “Noah Jenson” I mumbled.
“What?”
“Noah Jenson’ I said clearer this time. Mrs. Dewyatt nodded.
“Alright, you all better listen up. I can call up your little club, and tell them to not allow you to volunteer here anytime I want. So be careful, absolutely no mischief. And you all” she paused and made eye contact with me again before continuing. “Better work extremely hard, you hear me?” We all nodded. And just like that, she was gone, disappeared into another room.
We all turned to Ms.Tina. “Don’t mind her. Here are your lists, Oh, Isabella, make sure that any sick animal’s bedding gets washed separately. And all of you, no walking the dogs alone, and please, if Benny digs a hole in the yard again can you fill it back in?”
“Yes, Thank you” I said, as we turned and began to start the things on our lists. Every day we got a list of things that had to be done, and today the first thing on my list was to wash all the blankets and towels from the animals’ cages so they were clean. After I had collected all the blankets and towels and was loading them into the washing machine, Mrs. DeWyatt walked into the room.
“So your mother is Rebecca Jenson?” she asked, leaning up against the wall. I nodded.
“So, you guys are really rich then, right? Your parents, you, and your brother?” I nodded again.
“This must be a change of speed for you, then. Nobody here’s doing your work for you.”
I didn’t know what to do. What to say. What is a person supposed to even do in this situation?
“Um, I mean..” I trailed off as I started the washing machine.
“Well, I’ve heard you’ve already been here for a week. That’s nothing. You’ve seen nothing. Animals die, Isabella. They get sick, and suffer, and die. Have you ever had anything bad happen to you outside of your little money bubble?” she was getting closer to me, gradually moving forward.I had a lot of questions, but more importantly, one thing kept running through my mind. Bite your tongue. Bite your tongue. Bite your tongue!
“That’s what I thought” she snapped, and then turned away, yelling at the barking dogs to be quiet. She left me there, standing in front of the washing machine, extremely confused.

I agree with m a e v e ~ I really like that you haven't used the "bratty rich kid" stereotype because, personally, I've never met a rich kid who hasn't been kind, pleasant and humble. Honestly, I wouldn't even be able to tell that they were rich from their personalities. Obviously, you do get spoiled brats but I think that it's important not to judge someone by their wealth, whether they're poor or rich.

Unlike Viper, I'd totally be friends with the main character :) (can't remember her name - Isabella?) It's a shame that she's constantly judged for being rich :( - it's not her fault, she was born into a rich family. She has no control over that; what she can control is her attitude and she seems like a fun, normal and relatable girl :D

I’m glad you guys are enjoying it! I have chapter three here, but before I start there a few things I should mention. This chapter is a little bit short, I just felt like it was kinda necessary. Also, this chapter is ( a little sad, if I wrote it right :/) but I swear after this chapter I’ll cool it with the sad stuff about her Isabella’s Dad. And also, in this chapter there’s an ( extremely ) brief Hamilton reference, and I just thought I should say 1. I don’t own Hamilton and it belongs to Lin Manuel Miranda and 2. The reference was mostly just because I felt like putting it in there, but if you really can’t figure out what I mean, then imagine Addy plays ( sad song) and then a happier song. Okay, I’ll stop rambling, and I hope you enjoy!
Chapter three
“Hey, Isabella, let’s listen to some music!” Addy said, pulling out her phone. We were in the car, on the way home from the animal shelter. It wasn’t as bad as this morning, but still, just sitting in a parked car was like a part in a horror movie, where the main character knows there’s something hiding in the dark, and there’s suspenseful music in the background. Before I could say anything, Addy pressed play on her phone. “ There are moments that the words don’t reach, there is suffering too terrible to name..”
“ Oh no” I said laughing, reaching over and pausing the music on Addy’s phone.
“ What? I thought you like “ It’s Quiet Uptown”!” Addy protested, laughing a little bit too.
“ I do like that song, except you always cry when you listen to it!” I said, half jokingly.
“Like you’re one to talk! You always cry too, you just never admit it!”
I shrugged, but agreed with her. “ Just do another song, And not a sad one!” I said.
“Alright, here” Addy pressed play on her phone again.
“There’s nothing rich folks love more then going down town and slummin’ it with the poor..”
Me and Addy spent the rest of the ride home singing along. And while I can’t be sure that she did it on purpose, I did almost forget about the fact that I was in a car, and I relaxed a little bit.
“Hey, this is Noah. I can’t come to the phone right now, but leave a message and I’ll call you back! See ya soon!”
I sighed. Still holding my phone, I opened up my my texts and tapped on my Dad’s number.

Hey Dad, it’s me again. I just called your phone and I thought I’d say hi like this

I’ve heard of people getting texts from their dead relatives. Can you see these? Sometimes I think about it. Sometimes I think I can see the little bubbles pop up. I’m pretty sure my eyes are just playing tricks on me though.

Hey Dad, guess what? I finally rode in a car again today. But I was okay, and I rode with Addy and Ryan and their mom. You always thought they were really nice. Remember we used to go to their Christmas party every year? Me and Mom still do. We went last year. It was real quiet without you. I’ve already told you that, I guess. I don’t know what your reaction would be if I told you I went on a car again.

Dad?

Did I scare you? Or hurt your ears? I know I screamed really loud when I saw the other car smash into ours, and, I don’t know. I really hope I didn’t scare you, because I didn’t mean to.

I’m really sorry Dad.

Do you think if I wasn’t talking you wouldn’t have crashed?

Are they treating you nice up there? I hope that they are.

I’m volunteering at an animal shelter now. With Addy and Ryan. It’s really fun. I think you would’ve been proud of me for helping out. I hope you are.

Your plants are still doing great.

I promise I’ll tell Ian about you when asks, okay? I know that he was in the car with us that day, but he was so little there’s no way he’ll remember. I’ll tell him how funny you were, and Me and mom can sing the songs you and her used to sing to me.

Alright Dad, I have to go now. I’ll try to say hi tomorrow. I love you

I turned off my phone. I was sitting on my bed, with Ginger purring in my lap. Ginger’s the cat dad got from the animal shelter I’m volunteering at. Sometimes I call his phone, so I can hear his voice. Then I text him. I know he won’t answer, but I feel like I’m supposed to say hi. He’s still my Dad, right?

“Isabella?” My mom said, suddenly standing outside my doorway.
“ Yeah, Mom?”
“ What are you doing up so late? Don’t you need to be up early in the morning?” She looked genuinely concerned, although I couldn’t figure out why.
“ eight o’clock isn’t that early to wake up, mom.”
My mom sighed. “ Just get to sleep, okay? It’s eleven o’clock”
I nodded. “ Okay Mom. Goodnight. Love you”
Switching off my light, I loosely braided my long brown hair so that it wouldn’t get knotted by the morning. Then I fell asleep, with Ginger right beside me.

The Schuyler Sisters! Angelica, Peggy, Eliza... WERK! Aha sorry, you've got it in my head now xD Love the Hamilton references, even though I've never actually seen it.

It's so sad about her dad :( It makes sense why she was afraid to get into the car now.

These lines really got to me. The first one because it's as if she blames herself :( and the second one because... I dunno, it brings everything to reality. Like, he's passed away but life just carries on as normal, the plants still need watering. Even though it's sad, I love how authentic and realistic this chapter seems - probably your best yet :)

Chapter 4
“ Glad to see you’re on time today” Mia said as I crashed into the kitchen counter and fell on the ground.
“ Ow! I really need to stop doing that!” I exclaimed, standing up. “Oh yeah, I’m not running late today. I actually found my hairbrush!”
Mia laughed. “ Well, I’m glad you’re more organized today. So I’m guessing the dreaded car ride went fine yesterday?”
I paused. “ Yeah, it went fine.” I lied. I decided it would be best to not tell her the truth, because it wasn’t really that bad. Sure I didn’t like it, but it was all in my head. It’s not a big deal. Right? Right?!
I grabbed a granola bar from the cabinet and tore open the wrapper. My mom normally hates it when I eat just a granola bar for breakfast, but she’s never home in the morning, so it slips by her.
As I grabbed my shoes and started tying them, I heard my phones ringtone go off. “ Shoot!” I muttered, finishing putting on my shoes. They’re here early!
“ Bye Mia! Thank you, and see you later!
“ Hey Isabella! You ready for the adoption event today?”
I nodded as I slammed my door shut. “ Where is it again?”
Ryan turned around in the front seat to face m. “ Um, I think it’s at the plaza with the petsmart. They’re doing this thing where we try and get people to at least donate something to the shelter. Also they’re doing this bake sale or something.”
I nodded as I fastened up my seatbelt. I’ve heard of the animal shelter doing things like this, especially when the shelter needed extra money or they were considering sending animals off to different “kill” shelters to be euthanized. I hoped that this was one of those times the shelter just needed some more money, because I’d seen animals sent away to different animal shelters before. Actually, it kind of bothers me we never get to know what happens to them. It’d be nice to know if the animal we’d spent so much time caring for actually, you know, got to live.

“ Alright guys. Here’s the deal. I’m really glad you guys are helping out, but you have to promise me something. Can you do that?” We all nodded. Addy, Ryan and I were all standing in a line in front of Cassidy, one of the older volunteers.
“If somebody comes up to you, talking about adopting out an animal, you have to come get one of us, alright?” We all nodded again.
“ okay, great. Now let’s do this thing!”
The rest of the day went okay. Nothing really exciting. Mostly just us three, managing the bake sale in front of a PetSmart, while all the older volunteers actually adopted out animals.
“ I don’t see why we have to do this stupid bake sale” Ryan muttered at one point. “We signed up to volunteer at an animal shelter, not hand out brownies.”
Addy shrugged. “Well, we aren’t just giving out brownies” she pointed out. “ There’s cookies, and cupcakes… and we are volunteering at an animal shelter. The shelter needs money, if it doesn’t have that, there can’t be a shelter for us to volunteer at. And this is the whole point of the animal shelter! Animals come in, and they go out! And if selling some brownies will do anything to help with that, then I’ll sell brownies all week! Here you go, have a nice day”
Me and Ryan both looked at her. “ Wow. You should be a teacher. Or a motivational speaker. Or a guidance counselor.” I said, counting the money in our box.
“ Yeah, you should. You have a way of manipulating people so they feel good about doing literally anything.” Ryan held his hands up and made his voice really high, like he’d been sucking helium. “ Miss Henderson, I don’t wanna learn about this thing that I’ll never use in real life” he put his hands on his hips. “ Oh don’t worry, you’ll use it in college! Oh, and don’t forget about puzzles and games! You can use this and puzzles and games, can’t you?”
We all laughed. “ Look, guys, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t manipulate people!”
I shrugged. “ Alright, if you don’t like the word ‘ manipulation’ then we’ll call it.. positively messing with a persons’ brain. Is that better?”
Addy laughed. “ Okay fine..” her voice trailed off as her eyes widened.
“ What is it?” I asked, scanning the crowd in front of us for what she was looking at.
“Turtle” Addy said, still staring into the crowd.
“ Wow, Turtle’s here? Where?” I asked. Turtle’s the nickname we have for John, the boy Addy likes. I’ve told her who I liked, too, but he moved away at the end of this school year. Don’t ask why we call him Turtle, it was the first thing we could think of.
Addy cocked her head. Sure enough, towards the back of the line, there was Turtle, wearing a t-shirt and shorts.
“You have to be the one that gives him his thing ” she said, looking down and trying to hide her face. That’s when I got an idea.
“ okay. I’ll talk to him.” I said, smirking just a little bit.
“ Isabella. What. Are. You. Smirking. For.” Addy asked, eyes still as big as saucers.
“ Nothing! Look, I’ll talk to him, alright? By the way, would you want to be friends with him? Or.. something” I asked, bending down to grab another box of cupcakes.
“ Well.. yes.. I guess so, but.. that’d never work.. hey what are you doing?”
I shook my head again. “ nothing! Just don’t worry about anything!”
What I didn’t realize while I was trying to convince Addy I wasn’t doing anything, was that Turtle was now at the front of the line.
“ Uh, can I have a brownie please?”
I made him step off to the side so Addy couldn’t hear. “What do you think of her?” I asked, cocking my head towards Addy.
“Addy? She’s pretty cool.”
I nodded and grabbed a pen and a piece of paper. “ Would you wanna date her? Or be her friend? My point is, would you want her number?” He nodded.
I scribbled Addys’ phone number on the paper. “ Here you go. Oh, here’s your brownie. Have a nice day”
“ Thanks” he said as he walked away.

The rest of the day went alright. We only adopted out three dogs, but we ended earning up five hundred dollars from the bake sale. Later that night, I got a text from Addy :

Hey, did you give Turtle my number?

Is it a good thing if he has it?

YES!

I’m glad

So, you gave it to him?

.. maybe

Ok so yes, yes you did

Uh

Why?

Because you said

Is everything ok?

Oh I gotta go see you tomorrow
