Do you mind if I add one?

Its called the IKEA PLATSA

They are like the pax but some are smaller.

Its pretty simple to build, just build it the way you would if it was a wardrobe (put it on its back as well lol forgot to add this) the fill the cracks with aquarium sealant (safe for hams) and then make your lid with mesh and wood planks like you would with any other DIY cage. If you wanted it more secure then i would put some crews and nails in as well just to make sure there is no change of it breaking easily.

It would have no glass or acrylic unless you replaced on of the sides, which may be unappealing for some. Its 55cm tall which is 22 inches which means you can easily have 10+ inches of bedding.

Size: *Varies (linked below)

Cost: Varies (different countries and all that)

Type: DIY

Thank you for writing all of this! It must have taken awhile. This article will definitely be something I send to my friends when they are looking for an DIY cage or going to IKEA.

As a note, “varys” is actually spelled “varies”. You used the word a lot in the article, so you might want to make sure it’s spelled right. Other than that, it is a very well written article, and thank you again for writing it!

If anyone wants some information on the Platsa I'd be more than happy to share.

I own one, and I haven't heard of anyone else who has experience with one (hope that doesn't sound rude). I know that I've introduced it to some members, such as sweetlikehoneycomb, but I don't think she has one for her hamster yet.

I can share advice/D.I.Y tips/photos - just ask. :)

Oooh okay that would be extremely useful as I have no information about the Platsa yet as it doesn't seem very popular. If you can provide some information that would be brilliant :)

Note: Can you share a photo?

Thanks!

Of course! I might not be able to upload the photo today, most likely tomorrow, if you don't mind.

Looks great! Just a couple notes on cage sizes:

- The Samla is right about 450sq in at the base as it slopes down a good bit; I might be able to get up to my attic and check at the 6" mark too if you'd like

- I believe each Billy shelf is around 350sq in so two would be 700sq in or so. Don't quote me on that lol--you should also be able to find it in ErinsAnimals's video

Here’s a post I made with a set up in it a while back!

http://hamsterhideout.com/forum/topic/157570-making-the-most-of-a-minimum-sized-cage/

It also states it has around 500sq in at the 6” mark so I’ll trust past me measured that correctly haha.

Hey, this napkin holder can work quite well, either turned upside down to make a hideout or the “right way up” for something like a sandbath. The handle part, which can be used as a door, is fairly small/low so I wouldn’t use it for a Syrian unless modified. There are two sizes I believe, I think I use the biggest size. I’ll see if I have any pictures of it!

I'm wondering if anyone has any pictures to share of a Platsa/Double Billy/Double Detolf cage? I've never seen these used much and it interests me!
