Hi, I'm probably starting an Etsy shop, just wondering if you would buy stuff like this?;
Paintings made by Kiwi/Avocado and future hamster (example)
Homemade hamster toys and treats
Homemade bird toys
ceramic diy food bowls for small pets
(possibly) homemade seed mix
Suggestions?
A few of things to think about:
- making stuff will take time and money, so you need to charge appropriately for what you're selling. What sort of ££ are you thinking of? Because it can very quickly add up when you have to buy eg. raw materials and then spend time making stuff
- people won't pay a lot, people generally expect a lot of Etsy stuff to be cheap
- you'll need an online bank account etc. to process payments
- if you're selling anything aimed at the pets (food, toys etc.) then be 100000% sure that everything used is safe for them. You don't want a lawsuit because something you sold inadvertently killed someone's pet.
For stuff like bird and hamster toys, what are you thinking of? Because personally, I wouldn't buy something that looked <oh no>, like a kid had made it, but at the same time I could get something for £2 from a pet shop, so you need to have something that actually looks professional AND you're willing to charge a dollar for.
Sorry if I sound negative. A couple of summers ago I got really into jewellery making and made a load of earrings and considered Etsy, but when you look at the earrings there, they're like £3 a pair, and the beads and wires cost me >£20, and then each pair took me half an hour to make, so it really REALLY wasn't worth it, especially factoring in packaging and getting to a post office to send them out.
