If anyone is interested in nutrition, I found this very interesting.

I watched this last night and it was very interesting.

It's very unfortunate how much influence money ultimately has on everything.

Personally, I might have been able to get away with eating far too much sugar as a child/teenager, but as an adult I know it just makes me feel rubbish. I don't even really find sweets/candy appetising anymore because I know how rubbish it will make me feel (though chocolate is still a weakness).

I try now to make all my "sugar" intake from natural sources (honey, blackstrap molasses, etc) but it's still basically empty calories though molasses has a lot minerals. I think it's ok to have a bit of chocolate when you have a good foundation of meats, cheeses, veggies.

The most important thing that always hit home for me from that video is how much is in processed foods, preservatives, extra sugar, extra salt. My grandfather just recently died in his 80s, and my father is currently in worse health then he was. I think our parents will not last as long as our grandparents because our grandparents ate significantly less processed foods. I try very hard to get my kids as much whole non processed foods. Of course, they choose what they eat when they aren't eating here but my hope is to give them a good foundation for their long term health.

He also briefly mentioned micronutrients, which is several deficient in mono crops. But what good is lots of food if it's deficient in nutrients?

Our grandparents ate so much animal fats, and vegetables from the garden fertilized by their animals. Everything was cooked in lard or butter and milk was whole and raw and ate plenty of bread, that only had 3-4 ingredients.
