*If this goes against the rules in any way let me know and I’ll delete it
*This may upset some people, I’m not too sure if it will but I’ll just put that out there
*Please don’t comment about grammar. I’ve made rants like these on other platforms and everyone comes at me saying “You’re one to talk, you don’t even know basic grammar” WELL GUESS WHAT I DON’T CARE ABOUT THAT RIGHT NOW

I AM SO FRUSTRATED WITH ALL THESE BACKYARD BREEDERS. They breed the female over and exceeding the 2-3 litter limit, until her body cannot take it anymore, and then they sell her to who knows where! They don’t educate themselves on genetics and then they breed to non-pedigreed hamsters together and oh, PERFECT, ANYONE WANT FREE SNAKE FOOD??? THEN they trick families into thinking they have healthy tamed hamster sand then they end up with a aggressive hamster who has a plethora of health issues just to then dump them on some over filled rescue! WHY aren’t their regulations on these types of things in North America? AFTER ALL, we are talking about living breathing creatures who don’t have a chance of defending themselves! Pups get handled too soon, introducing bacteria, causing them to bloat and die a slow, painful death, and then the ones who do survive? The mom culls them! And oh, she’s aggressive, monstrous, and some BYBs will even call the mom! NO IT’S BECAUSE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT PREY ANIMALS, AND IF YOU HADN’T INTERVENED, THE PUPS WOULD BE FINE! And NOW I’m seeing people sell 3-4 week pups, and keep in mind no hamster should be rehomed before AT LEAST 5 weeks, 6 strongly preferred. Then whoever buys the hamster wonder why they die after a couple of months, and THEN the breeder will say “Oopsies, you should’ve taken better care of them”. NO IT’S YOUR FAULT, YOU BRED THESE HAMSTERS WITH POOR GENETICS, SO MANY HEALTH PROBLEMS, AND A HORRIBLE START AT LIFE! THIS IS WHY THE AVERAGE LIFESPAN FOR A NON ETHICALLY BRED HAMSTER IS 1.5 YEARS OR LESS! People breed the, for profit, because they are small, can survive even in some of the harshest conditions, and are willing to eat almost anything, AND IF IT WEREN’T FOR PETSTORES AND THESE SO CALLED “BREEDERS”, HAMSTERS WOULD BE MORE COMMONLY SEEN AS ACTUAL COMPANION ANIMALS WHO HAVE ACTUAL COMPLEX NEEDS TO THRIVE. Argggh, just I’m so angry because in my province, there’s only TWO ethical breeders, and like 50 BYBS! (And no, I’m fairly certain that number isn’t over exaggerated, or at least by not a lot, which really isn’t much better!) IF you want to ETHICALLY breed hamsters, get an experienced and humane breeder to mentor you, research genetics, husbandry, and breeding practices for however long it takes you to have it all down, THEN get natural tempered and healthy stock from your mentor, or another breeder, AND PROPERLY CARE FOR THOSE ANIMALS AND MAKE SURE THEY GO TO GOOD HOMES. IF YOU CAN’T SFFORD THE SPACE, TIME, MONEY, AND EFFORT IT TAKES TO ETHICALY BREED, DON’T BREED! THESE ANIMALS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SUFFER BECAUSE, WE, AS HUMANS, WANT TO FULFILL OUR WANTS! Remember, your animal’s NEEDS, come before your WANTS!

Ok, that felt good, but seriously, I’m sick and tired of these people who don’t give any care to the animal’s health and well being, and just want cute babies and to make a profit! (If you are the ethically breeding you will spend more money into your animals then you will EVER possibly make back. Reputable breeders breed because they LOVE the animals, and want to improve the species through careful and selective breeding!)

Now time to talking about this possibly pregnant hamster on Kijiji. So someone posted an add, saying they have a baby robo for rehoming because she won’t get along with the male. First of all, while I’m not by any means experienced with robos, she definitely looks older than 4 weeks, which by then most hamsters reach sexual maturity! I’ve seen countless people think their robos are very young when in fact there adults and this is due to the, being misinformed and not knowing how big they actually are when full grown! I’m just so stressed right now, what if someone gets the hamster, turns out she is pregnant, and then have no clue on how to care for litters??? I really want to get her, only temporarily, to see if she is pregnant, if so raise the litter, and rehome all of them to GOOD HOMES. But that probably wouldn’t be the best decision as we might not be able to care for more hams. There aren’t any rescues here, or, at least, ethical ones, and I’m just so heartbroken. And even if she isn’t pregnant, Ikm still worried for her, like all others on Kijiji, as many of these hamsters go to a home with unsuitable care. I hope there’s a future where their are laws on the acre of all pets and petstores stop getting supplied from pet mills AND stop selling unsafe products. Though I guess the number one thing we can do right now is to support LEGITIMATE rescues, ETHICAL breeders, and to spread correct care! I encourage you to educate people at petstores who are buying unsafe products for hamsters, (or any animal for that matter) and to create some sort of website on correct hamster care, Ikm actually working on one following Canadian standards! The more resurfaces with correct care the better! Anyways, have a great day everyone, and please be wary of breeders, and make sure they are actually responsible. For a list of humane breeders got to Strongbrew Hamstery’s website, look under resources, and you’ll find a tab with ethical breeders in Canada, and some other parts of the world I believe.
