Hello everyone! I am super worried right now. My Syrian hamster, TiTi might just be pregnant. She and Chacha(our male) mated 2 weeks ago, but I’m not sure it succeeded. Yesterday I noticed blood on her bedding— but she still hasn’t had babies yet. It has been more than 16 days! She also doesn’t have the pear shaped body, just a little hump of it. She’s gotten skinnier though, but all I’m worried about is the blood. Please help! I don’t have a vet, and it’s my first time caring for a hamster!

For future reference: HHF is not a breeding forum. A general idea here is that when breeding, you should consult an expert with experience and have them guide you, as well as teach you about potential complications beforehand, not ask random people online. Always, whether or not breeding, have a vet on hand-it’s a necessity.

Since it’s been a while, it seems something has definitely gone wrong. Do you know if she’s lost weight, and if so how much? And please, see an exotic, rodent vet right away. Only they can 100% diagnose and treat her. All pets need vets, and very few things can be solved at home. How old is she?

Exactly how many days has it been since she was with the male (you said two weeks, then more than 16 days)? How old is TiTi?

Read this thread in case she does give birth: http://hamsterhideout.com/forum/topic/129725-crash-course-on-hamster-pregnancies/

Also, please don't mate them again. Breeding is a complicated process because so much can go wrong. You need to understand genetics, know the bloodline of your hamsters, and have had many years of hands-on hamster experience.

Thank you! Actually, we didn’t mean to mate them. Someone left them together. There was no weight loss. This time we’ll make sure not to breed again. It’s been 18 days.

Sometimes females can reabsorb the babies, that's the best case scenario. I would keep an eye on her.
