I've started using a fitness app on my phone (now that I have a phone that can handle more than 2 downloaded apps at a time, lol), but the step count isn't accurate because it's awkward carrying a largish phone around all the time. The pockets in women's clothing are so small.

So I'm looking for recommendations for budget step counters. Fitbit is too expensive for my purposes. Let's be honest. I'm not an athlete; I don't need all the features. And I've spent too much on electronics recently.

Are watches or clips more convenient? Which features do you find the most useful? Accuracy is important. I think it would be helpful to have a feature that keeps track of steps over time, so I can see if I'm improving or getting lazy. I'm not sure if I should go with a smart device or something more rudimentary.

You can buy very cheap step counters that are just that - no fancy apps or anything, it will literally only count your steps. They cost very little. They clip onto your pants and count every step accurately throughout the day. You can buy them in pharmacies usually or online.

I agree with ^, I used to have a strictly pedometer only device, it cost about $20 CAD and all it did was track steps, I don't think it can connect to your phone though :)

Just did a quick search on Amazon and you can find them for less than $15 so it's not that expensive.

I personally prefer watches for the other aspects of it as well but for just activty tracking a basic pedometer would be okay.

I agree with everyone else, here is one that gets good reviews on amazon:

Thanks for the input, folks! I suppose I can upgrade if I discover a hidden athleticism (ha ha). I just need to do something because I've become quite lazy in the past couple of years (with nowhere to go, canceled events, etc.).

Oh, color options!
