ive had this female winter white hybrid dwarf for a month now. for a certain time, i thought she was squeaking out of pain but it was actually an accidental litter of pups that were squeaking for food. however, today, weeks after i gave the pups away now that they were old enough, i decided to let her roam in my bed a little bit, wish supervision. what i didnt expect is that i ocasionally hear her squeak. im pretty sure she never did it before.

i do know that some hamsters are more vocal but i dont think she is, or maybe i just didnt hear her before. and i also know that if they suddenly start squeaking it could be from pain, but her squeaks are very low and they don't sound like painful squeaks (i've heard one of the pups bite the other once, and a painful squeak is usually very loud), besides there's nothing i can think of that could cause her pain, there are no platforms in her enclosure where she could fall from and stuff, so i don't see how she could be feeling pain. why was she squeaking?

How often has she been squeaking? And has she done it after going back in her cage? Low squeaks are sometimes little sneezes from your hamster. She might have a little piece of dust up her nose.

she squeaked for some minutes when i played with her but then stopped. she doesn't squeak in her enclosure. i suspected they could be sneezes but i wasn't fully sure as they kind of sounded like noises that came from her throat, y know?

This does not sound very serious. Does she have trouble breathing? If she only did it for a few minutes than it might have just been something in her airway.

They also could've been happy squeaks!
My hamsters both make a squeaking like noise sometimes when I bring them out.

I Googled hamster noises and listen maybe you should too.

Hey I know it’s been months (hope your hammy is still doing well) but I registered and logged in to say that my dwarf has only squeaked a couple times. The first time (and most memorable) was during a time when I was experimenting with his cages and wondered if he had too much space because he never went in one of the bins. So I took it away and cleaned it and didn’t give it back until maybe 4-5 days later. Well, I fixed it all up like it was before and when I reintroduced him to it, he went through his little tunnel that connects the two bins and when he saw his old second part of his home, he squeaked for joy! It was so cute and then he ran around and played on all his toys and was so happy. You’re lucky if you hear a hamster squeak - most of the time it means they are super happy or grateful for something you did for them.
