I haven't done it yet, but was wondering if anyone had ever tried to make a smaller base for the All Living Things/Full Cheeks 12 inch silent wheel? I have one for each of my syrians but they take up a massive amount of space with the original base! My male syrian doesn't mind, he's as content as could be in his 40gal, but my female is losing her mind and after I move her to a niteangel vista large soon I want the wheel to be able to sit on top of a platform and not take up the entire thing! I'm thinking of trying to make a wooden and PVC base, and try to match the size and adaptability to a niteangel base if possible.

DIYing new base for petsmart wheel?

I hate these wheels so much. The sizing choices are wonky, they are ugly, and those bases are the worst thing to have ever existing. Honestly, if you have the money, you could upgrade them to a different wheel with a better base. You could donate the old wheel, or use as a back up.
Just voicing my opinion as someone who work in a Petsmart and these wheels are the ONLY ones we sell. I have seen someone try to add it to a 40 gal and the base takes up sooooo much space.

I don't have this wheel, but if I read the listing correctly, it can be detached from the base and attached to a wire cage. If you figure out how it attaches, you should be able to engineer a stand it can attach to.
It looks like they were trying to imitate the Carolina Storm but failed to take into consideration that the CS is a homemade wheel, which necessitated working with materials from the hardware store. They also made the stand clunkier than the CS for some unknown reason.

I'm not fond of them either, I just simply can't afford to drop $80 on new wheels right now unfortunately. I'm currently fostering 13 dwarf hamsters, so I recently had to buy like 5 small niteangels just to make sure everyone had a wheel (was a pretty sudden intake, and one of the hamsters was pregnant). I definteltly do want to get them nicer wheels eventually, but with my syrian needing an upgrade, being in the process of beginning to rent my first home, and not having the ability to DIY a cage right now, I'm just having to make due.
I used to work at petsmart, so I get what you mean. I really wish they would release a 8 and 10 inch wheel, and just drop the 6.5. They outta just make a niteangel clone tbh
edit: forgot a word

yeah they really gave them the biggest and ugliest base possible lol! That is true though, one of them used to belong to my roommates hedgehog, but she got a couple bucket wheels and gave it to me since my male syrian needed an upgrade from his medium niteangel
