So last month, my friend's hamster gave birth (She said that the hamster was already pregnant when she first got her) And she offered one of the babies to me. But sadly she isn't giving them a proper diet (She gives them corn and corn only) and she has a very small cage. She already offered me to take them when they reach a month but i did some research and i saw people saying 6 weeks is the minimum for babies to get rehomed. I already prepared a big cage and a high protein diet for the little guy. Would it be better if we wait for 6 weeks or would 4 weeks be enough since they will most likely have a better time with me than with her?

4 weeks is too early to rehome a baby because they are still learning a lot for their siblings and mom and they just aren't ready to go to a new home. hope this help

4 Weeks is too early! At that age, hamsters are still learning SO MUCH from their siblings! I would wait for 8 weeks, & you shouldn't get a hamster any smaller than 6 weeks. Hope this is helpful!

I'm torn on this. Normally, you'd wait until 6 weeks, but a corn only diet is not appropriate for any species (human, cow, hamster...) . Corn is nutritionally incomplete, and corn-only fields are literally leading to the extinction of European hamsters in certain areas. Hamster mothers on a corn-only diet have been shown to have a greater tendency to cannibalize pups.

 

If you gave your friend a bag of hamster food, would she be willing to feed that to the hamsters over the next few weeks?

I would but we live very far away and we have been planning to meet for about a month now, it would be very hard to be able to meet again since we are very busy at the moment and it could take up to 2 months till we can meet again. I would deliver it but like i said we live very far and it could be pretty pricey.
