I got a hamster around a week ago! She's a 1.5 year old female dwarf hamster, and I was able to get her from someone who was looking to get rid of their hamsters (since there are no ethical breeders or even shelters in or near my area, that was the next best option). After a lot of thinking and looking at name ideas, I decided on the name Skye (I think it's really pretty-sounding)! She's been burrowing a lot ever since she came, and zooms really really fast on her Niteangel wheel every night. 
Currently she is in a 650 sq in cage, but we are upgrading her to a 900 sq in enclosure very soon. That way, we'll be able to fit in much more enrichment and bedding for burrowing!
I'm so glad we didn't have to support the overcrowded pet store in my area, and are instead able to help Skye have a better life than than she had before!
