Hi, long time, no see!
Haven't been on the forum for a hot minute, but since the passing of my hamster(s), ive taken a few months to cool off, and now that I'm finished with my school year, I want to get a roborovski! I've wanted one of those fellas for a whiiile, and have no experience with them-- I mostly know what they look like through photos online :P

I'm planning on housing it in my detolf-- that should be enough space for one of them, right? (with proper enrichment, of course.)
I want to fill 1/3 of the cage with sand, and yada yada yada, I mostly have all the toys and things I need right here at home.
Though, I am a big fan of DIY, and want to make a tunnel system underneath the bedding

So, robo-owners: would your robo be able to fit through a toilet roll? (As that is what I'm planning on using-- I can find bigger cardboard tubes, but it would take much more effort for me to "source" them, as my dad would probably have to call around all his other mechanic-friends and start searching in his garage himself: I imagine he might have a few from those big indurstrial paper rolls... :cheeky:

TL;DR:
Would the average robo be able to safely, and comfortabely fit through a toilet paper roll?

BONUS QUESTION:
I have this cork log/tunnel that I haven't gotten to use yet, but one end of it has an opening circumference of 1,5" or about 4 cm. Again, would this be safe for a roborovski dwarf to fit through, or should I close up the entrance (or potentially just saw the whole stub off??)

Yep I used to have a robo and he fit perfectly in a toilet paper roll with some room to spare. I do believe that the minimum tunnel size is 1” for dwarf and 2“ for Syrian so I’m sure he will be fine. Also I think that a de told would be a pretty large cage as long as you have plenty of enrichment but again I can’t guarantee that they will be happy but it is a pretty large enclosure so I wouldn’t worry :)

Thank you, that's great!
I can't really grasp how small robo's are, but at least I'll make sure that it'll have an amazing cage !! imo decorating is one of the funnest parts of having a hamster, apart from the hamster itself ofc :D

my robo fits perfectly through toilet paper rolls! he can also fit through a tunnel with an opening of 3cm no problem :) (it wasn't supposed to be a tunnel originally, but he used it as one anyways XD) robos are so cute, and i wish you luck!

TP rolls are big enough for dwarf hamsters to fit comfortably. If you use kitchen paper towels, those tubes are fabulous. The cork log is also wide enough. Robos are super small. You may want to check the Detolf for any gaps. Robos can squeeze through surprisingly small spaces (and potentially get themselves stuck when they are too ambitious).

I will attest to this! My robo was in a 40 gallon front opening tank and he could fit out of the gap between the door and the side when the door was open for maintenance.  It was like a 1/2 inch gap at most and I had to trap him to catch him over an hour later lol!

My robo can easily even turn around in a toilet paper/paper towel roll. Though, mine pees in the rolls and then blocks them off with bedding. So, maybe be prepared for the tunnels to be ruined pretty quickly lol.

Yeah, tunnels get peed on fairly regularly. On the bright side, cardboard tunnels can be tossed and replaced (unlike plastic and ceramic tunnels that you need to wash).
