Hi so I know Female Syrians go into heat and are more picky when it comes to their cage size and are constantly looking for a mate. But what are the differences between Female Syrians and Male Syrians both gender wise and physical. Like do Male Syrians have big balls like male robo's/dwarfs etc?

I find both of my male Syrians are more chill. Both a bit more picky about food. Yes, they have large testicles, though in the cold months they are a bit hidden. They both seem to be satisfied with a bit of floor time but they don't need tons of attention. They seem to be more chill toward people but more aggressive toward other hamsters.

Each hamster does have a unique personality though so it's hard to generalize.

Thank you! I really want a syrian but I want to be able to give a female syrian the floorspace it wants but also a male syrian I don't know if that would work because my mom doesn't like to look at the big balls. It grosses her out. Also she doesn't like when males sent idk if male Syrians do but yeah.

Male syrians don't have strong smell. I think the smell of a female would probably bother your mother more than large testicles, especially on a long haired boy.

If scent is an issue, females Syrians can really STINK depending how sensitive your Mom is. In Syrians females smell, males do not. However, male Syrians have even larger and more noticeable testicle than most species of dwarf (possible exception- Chinese). A fully coated long-haired male would hide them pretty well, but it's hard to find a long hair with a good full coat in pet store lines these days, so no guarantees.

I’ve owned both. My male Syrian was much more calm than my female. My female also has more of a sassy attitude.
Some don’t produce much smell but mine REEKS when she’s in heat and acts more crazy when she’s in heat. The males have massive testicles too. I will say though, if you take the hamster out of its enclosure it does tend to retract (for lack of a better word) them.
But also those are all generalizations, some male hams are crazy, some females are chill. As for floor space I provided my male with the exact same enclosure that my female is in now and they both were satisfied with it. The only difference is that my female gets about an hour of free roam/playpen time almost every night.

Yeah I think so too. Thank you so much! I can't seem to find any pictures to see exactly what they look like but I am going to try. I will def look into Chinese Hamsters. I have thought about female Chinese Hamsters but not males. So again thank you!

That's what I thought. I also heard tho that some females don't smell or they don't smell as bad so I feel like it's 50/50. Thank you for this information especially males.

That is very helpful thank you!
