Hi. I’ve had my hamster for a month now. I live alone and never have people over, but today my sister visited for the weekend. We went out and came back late at night. My little Lulu was erratically running on her wheel (she usually doesn’t run until I’m asleep). She was super skittish and wouldn’t take treat from me, which is odd. She was also laying on her wheel (maybe to rest from all that running) but I’ve never really seen her do that before either and when I put my hand near her she made this chittering/chattering noise. She didn’t seem like she was going to bite (and she never has - aside from a light curious nip). She is usually sweet and slightly cautious.

Is it because my sister is here and she can smell a new person that she is a little freaked out? I’m just leaving her alone for now, but she is almost acting like when i just got her. :(

My guess is she may have been woken up by noises she isn't used to and she can probably smell all the new people. I would just give her some time and hopefully she'll settle down in a day or two.

That chittering noise is the I'm very nervous (or I'm very annoyed) sound hammies make.

Thanks. Yeah poor thing is super anxious - her prey mode fully activated. Now she’s hiding out and sticking to the walls. Not sleeping in her usual place, but in a corner.

My sister left today but she’s still freaked. I’m just going to leave her alone and hope she is able to feel comfortable again soon.
