Hello Everyone,

I just call the Higgins company about my concern for sugar in the Sunburst and the nutrition spécialist told me there was no problem to remove the fruits from the bag since it will not affect the protein level since they are supplied by the grains.... Are they telling the truth? Fruits have also fiber, am I wrong ? I would like experienced opinion.

Anytime you add or remove something from a mix, it will change the percentages. However, fruits are not a source of protein, so it's not going to effect it that much. It may decrease the fiber a bit but again probably not that much. Also, it only has 15% protein even with the fruit, so you'll need a protein booster anyway. Mealworms, chicken, etc.

I only bought Higgins Sunburst briefly when I was new to owning hamsters and at the time, I only had Syrians. I am not sure if Dwarf owners typically buy Higgins for Dwarves. I personally think I would probably find a different mix because of all the fruit rather than trying to pick it out. There are some nice ones on Etsy.

I personally would not pick out the fruit, as it can change any percentages like the fiber. It could be dangerous and your hammy could not get enough fiber or something - you really don't know what the side effects are. Like Kikya said, Higgins needs a protein booster. Hamsters 6mo+ should have 18-20% protein and under 6mo they should have 20-24%.

I would highly recommend importing a german mix or I would recommend a Etsy mix like RobinsGormetFood. If you don't have access to either of those options, I think Higgins + Purebites (or some other protein booster) will be fine.

Thanks, yeah I'll add some Purebites :) Concerning the fruits, I'll definitly take about half out not all in prevention :) Good compromise in my opinion. I think some people are not really concerned about the sugar for Dwarf.

The GA is not indicated in those mixes. How we know it is well balanced?

That is a repackaged German commercial mix. You can look up the info on the German site (you'll probably need google translate) but it's an excellent mix. I used to order that but feeding 6+ hamsters gets expensive.

Wow 6 hamsters is a lot of hamsters.... and those mixes are certainly the top over the top but expensive... yeah!

When did Robin shut her shop down? I thought she takes a limited amount of orders a day now but was still operating? I’m gonna be so bummed I was getting ready to buy my monthly food 😞

I was only out for vacation lol. Shop is back up now.  :)

(Also, not planning on closing it anytime soon. I was originally planning on stopping once I move to college [in a couple weeks...so excited!!], but then I got some help from home so I can continue running it. For more details you can have a look at my shop announcement.)

Well, it wasn't showing when I searched to post a link and you did mention previously that you were planning on closing up shop. I don't bookmark links so I search them up every time I go to post them. /shrug Perhaps, next time announce your break before you go so there's less confusion.

I did...both on Instagram and Etsy. Sorry I didn't post here too; I'll be sure to think of that next time. Just haven't been on here in a bit so didn't think to mention it; I figured anyone who wanted to continue following me would find me on the platforms I'm still active on.

In any case, if you were to look at my shop (which you do by putting my name in the search bar and search by shops, I'll show up regardless of whether or not I'm open I believe), my announcement clearly stated I was on vacation and returning July 28th.

Edit: Just double checked, it does. And at least on desktop the first thing you see is the vacation mode message, which stated my vacation status.

Just to let you know, I was able to find your shop while it was on break, as well as read the announcement/message about your vacation ^.^
So I'm not sure what the issue was with other people but it did work just fine for me~
Edit: ^ As well as one of my siblings, who found it while it was on vacation mode.

(Also sidenote, I'm glad you found help to keep it open while you're off at college!! I hope everything goes well with it lol, I know a lot of people are grateful that it'll still be open.)

I don't have social media platforms and a lot of people make reference to your shop so it would have been courteous to let people know. All I know is when I went to look for your shop. It wasn't there. There was no message, just a one liner of Etsy saying the shop was not there.

I don't have a screenshot because I honestly didn't think to take one but perhaps you have to follow the shop to see the message. Or if you'd previously purchased. I saw the message once your shop was back up.

Either way, people can find some decent mixes on Etsy now.

Good to know some people may not be able to see those messages. I'll definitely take that into consideration for the future. :)

Yeah, it's awesome how so many other shops have popped up! Makes me feel reassured that even if I were to take a longer break people wouldn't be without a high-quality mix that doesn't have to be shipped overseas. :)
