my hamster has been acting different... he keeps repeating the same steps until someone walks past his cage and he go crazy trying to get at them and escape. he's never been aggressive ever since I got him till now and even trying to feed him is hard because he comes straight after you and tries to latch onto my fingers. he's bitten so many people that used to touch and hold hm no problem. idk why he's doing it but I'm a little concerned because he's never been like this...any help?

update!!!!...he completely latched onto my dads finger and would not let go and he's still repeating himself and I'm really not sure if he has slept at all

Sometimes senior hamsters have arthritis or other issues that may be causing him pain, especially when being picked up. Have you noticed him walking more slowly or awkwardly? Any changes in his behavior other than the biting. If you think he's in pain, perhaps you could get some pain medication or anti-inflammatores from the vet.

It's also possible that he's getting kind of grumpy in his old age too lol I have an old man hamster that is quite grumpy and bites me frequently. I don't know if he was always like that as I just got him a few months ago but I plan on letting him live out his life in peace. =)

he still runs around on his wheel and cage like normal and he's still really active so I guess he's just gotten grumpy but what still concerns me is him repeating himself over and over till something interrupts him

What kind of food is he on? Has he had an drops or injuries? Repetitive behavior can be a sign of trauma, boredom, mental decline, or possible a tumor pressing on something.

Sorry I meant drops like someone dropping him, I was thinking like head trauma or a concussion. =)

no he won't really let anyone touch him unless you sit there and pet him for like 5 mins till he calms down so he hasn't been out of his cage unless he fell from something in his cage but nothing is really tall in there

So he's an elderly hamster. Keep an eye out for any other symptoms, in case he is ill. It's possible that something could be causing him pain; it may just be the aches and pains of old age. I think mental deterioration is a strong possibility at his age (with the repetitions and sudden aggression towards people he should recognized). My neighbor had a dog that went through something similar (used to be friendly, but became aggressive in her old age and couldn't recognize familiar people). You may want to invest in some gloves.

that's what I was thinking lucky he hasn't bitten me yet but I don't think its gonna be long till he dose his aggression has been getting worse almost everyday so it seems ill need those gloves soon but thank you ill keep an eye on him to see if he becomes ill or anything.
