Well, the information that I have read is it's based on weight. Technically, it's about 1g per 10g of weight. So if you have a 30g hamster it's about 3gs per day. But I mean, it makes them happier to have a bit of a food stash, so for my small hammies, I scoop up a bit not quite filled teaspoon. A teaspoon is about 4 grams. I wouldn't give them less than 1g/10g but it doesn't hurt to have a little extra either. It's not really that precise unless you are doing an experiment on the hamster. I wouldn't worry about getting it exact.

Also, during different parts of a hamsters life, he may eat more or less. I think most people just keep an eye on it and their weight, if they are in a growing stage, they should be gaining weight. If they are an adult, it's good if their weight is stable. Losing weight is usually a sign that they either need more food or that they have some other health issue going on. That's how I knew Dipper had something going on because I increased his food and he was still losing weight.

Thanks a lot. Definetly not doing an experiment on my precious hamster  :valentine:   I'll weight him tonight.

I generally recommend about 5g per day for dwarfs and 10g per day for syrians to start, but keep a close eye on your hamster's stash and adjust the amount you feed as needed. Every hamster is different, but those tend to at least be pretty close to what most hamsters need. :)

I have a very good news, I thought I was so much underfeeding my dwarf that he or she would be about 20g, but he or she (lol) is actually 50g at four months old. I will try to know if it's a male or a female tomorrow.

Sounds like you are doing the right things it's good to weight them at least once a week and keep a diary just in case. I can't tell you how many times it's been super helpful when my hammies have had health issues. It's honestly fine if they have extra food, it makes them feel safe to have a hoard. Mabel never saw a seed she didn't like, so she always pouches like she's never had a meal in her life. Lol
