Is it normal for a hamster to stay in one place for it's first time free roaming? Also how long should the first time be?

Sometimes hamsters are a little nervous to come out and explore. Make sure you have plenty of tunnels and hideouts in there. I would start for about 15 minutes and slowly increase as your hamster starts exploring. You also can put some food or treats down to encourage your ham to come out. :)

Hope this helps!

I agree with ForgetfulBreeze, you can also put some tunnels or things from your hamsters cage, this will get your hamsters scent in the room. I would actually recommend starting with 10 minutes, then increasing after your hamster is used to the room. Some hamsters will get scared in a completely new place without their scent. I would 100% recommend having treats, and food, to make your hamster feel more comfortable!

Hope this helps,

I agree with everyone above, make sure you have lots of treats and lots of hides and tunnels. I find having a sand bath helps, too.
