I’ve had my robo, Stickers, for about a month now. He’s a sweet hamster, doesn’t bite or hiss at all. He will take treats from my hand most of them and will almost always sit on my palm if it’s full of food or treats. Only issue is he is incredibly skittish, which I know is typical. I cannot pet him or pick him up at all yet, even by picking him up in one of his hides. I’ve had to pick him up once because I tried scooping him up in a hide and he BOOKED IT across my lap and we had a 30 minute moment in the bathroom of me trying to get him back that I’m sure was very stressful for both of us.
He doesn’t bite or even nip when I try to pet him, just runs at the fastest speed I’ve ever seen a hamster run. He doesn’t hide. Just runs a bit to the side and anticipates my next move that is usually just me giving treats as an apology for scaring the poor guy.
Any tips? This is my third hamster (4th counting the one from when I was a kid but that was eons ago) but all my others were fully tamed and liked being handled by week 2 which I guess in hindsight is very lucky. I was wondering if anyone had any tips! I’ve tried the toilet paper thing and it def helped. I understand he just might be one of those hamsters that’s more for looking than touching, but if there’s anything I can do to at least be able to get him out of his cage at all pls give me all the advice!

Robos are definitely more skittish by nature but this is the method that worked for me.
