Ok, thanks, this was really helpful! I've been looking at materials and they are more expensive than I thought, lol

Yeah, the building material industry got hit with more than inflation. It might be supply chain issues.

I've never tried these, so I don't really know. You could also use plywood.

Make sure it's formaldehyde-free plywood. On Home Depot's website, there's the brand "Columbia Forest Products" that offers non-toxic plywoods; pick a hamster-safe wood option. Lowes probably has a non-toxic plywood as well, though I don't know the brand name.

I have made 2 diy cages before, one 1900 sq inches and the other 4000 sq inches. The 1900 one was about 120 dollars. However it really depends on what you use and if you have tools at home. I used melamine for the back and bottom (where the hamster cannot get to) and for the rest was birch wood.

Here is what it looks like
Spoiler

If you like the look of this cage and have the tools to make it, just reply if you are interested or not and I can tell you how to make it or something similar.

The doors at the front open and the top opens too.

Wow what an amazing cage! I may take you up on that offer ( "I can tell you how to make it") I'll respond about that soon, I'm still looking at options!
Thank you soo much,

Can you please let me know what you decide before the 25th? I am invested now and am quite curious if you are going to go the DIY route or the store bought cage route

I think I'm going the Diy route, as I've already found most of the supplies. All the store bought cages weren't suitable for me, as I read some of the reviews, and it said they were flimsy :(

Thanks for the concern,
