Hello my name is ash and I’m 13 going onto 14 soon!
Not to long ago (4th of Aug) and yes I did get him from pet smart but it was only because my friends mom works there and this hamster has been there for about a month and I felt bad :( , I got my first hammy! His name is timbit and he is a siren hamster (a BIG one too ) around 7-8 inches long.

Before I got timbit I did lots of research until I was confident enough to get one! I started out with a 30 gal and 6-7 inches of bedding, I noticed not to long after he was showing signs of stress and then THAT stressed ME out so I went onto fb marketplace and found a detolf for only 10$!! Total steal. I now have 10 inches of bedding, lots of proper homemade food, many hides, 12inch wheel, a whole sand area, I spot clean every day, all of the good stuff. I thought “finally he’s a happy hammy!” But I’ve been seeing some behaviour/health (maybe??) signs that I’m not to sure what they are so I made an account to ask some questions, please be Patient with me since I am a total noob. Ever since I got timbit my mental health has been getting ALOT better and I just don’t want to mess something up and have him sick / stressed

1) in the right front corner of the detolf he has been digging up the sand , it’s been every night and I don’t really know what’s wrong, there is a fan below it so the glass is cool so maybe he’s trying to get to the glass so he can lay on it?

2) sometimes he moves kinda.. zig zaggy? Like he will move forward and then move back and then just kinda back and forth till he snaps out of it.

3) last night the STRANGEST thing happened. Timbit’s schedule is he wakes up and 9 and goes to bed around 4.
At 8:30 he woke up came out of his burrow (there’s a hide above it) and he just.. stayed there. Not cleaning himself, not moving , just kinda staring into the distance for about 15-20 minutes. After that I looked it up and mostly people where saying that there hammy do that when they need to sneeze? But he never sneezed. After about 25 minutes of no movement I got worried so I took out the hide and picked him up, I got him out of his cage and gave him his fav treat (peanuts) after 5 mins of just staying on my lap he started moving around so I put him near his wheel and he was back to his normal self. I was very scared and my mom said that he might have smelled the dog cuz it was in my room (we are baby sitting a dog) but I don’t think that’s right.

4) when he wakes up his hears are down, I could describe them as Dumbo ears, and his eyes are all squinting, after a while he’s back to normal but I’m not to sure is he’s sick and trying to show signs

Sorry for the long couple paragraphs lol.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated <3

How hot is it in your home? I'm worried that he might have signs of heatstroke or something else.
