**CHA Status Update**
Hello all!
I had been a part of the CHA for many years, since I was a pretty young girl. I attended nearly every show and began working alongside Linda Price, the president emeritus, at events and conversing with her fairly regularly. A few years later, Amy Wu of Moxie Hamstery also began attending shows and working with Linda. She eventually started Moxie Hamstery and took over the dwarf division. Erin Ramsey, my partner in Cheeks and Squeaks Hamsters, joined about 6 months before Linda left. She took to it incredibly quickly and totally blended in to the rest of us ladies. In many ways, she was the driving force in keeping Linda's legacy alive. We later added Melissa Brown of Sweet Tooth Hamstery to our team. She is the sweetest and heads our rescue program!
A year ago, Linda told us she was retiring and asked us if we would consider carrying on the AAA lines as well the CHA. She gave us everything to get started, and so we took a flying leap into the world of hamster breeding and showing. We have updated things quite a bit, but our core values are the same--we work on breeding healthy, happy hamsters to show standards. Moxie Hamstery has since retired, but Cheeks and Squeaks is actively working with Linda's Syrian lines. We are mentored by Strong Brew Hamstery.
We have updated the shows to be a bit more interactive and child centered, as we have shifted focus from having a super serious event to appealing to the public and educating them on proper hamster husbandry. Of course, we still have the traditional Standards portion of the show (we use NHC standards rather than BHA now) and we do take that seriously. We just wanted to add a little more fun! We still host 4 shows annually in various locations. We recently branched out to the Ventura area as well as hosting the events in Orange and LA counties. We also host an informational booth the OC Pet Expo yearly!
In short, the CHA and AAA is doing well. We would love to see membership come alive again and hope that maybe this inspires some of you to visit us.
Unfortunately, we were not given access to the original site and have not been able to update it. So, here is our brand new website: www.californiahamsterassociation.com . We have archived all of Linda's work so it is not lost if anyone needs it in the future.
This is our personal website for Cheeks and Squeaks: www.cheeksandsqueakshamsters.com
We hope to see some of you at our next show!
Love,
Tony, Erin, Melissa, and Amy
