We all want good grades. ;) But nobody really wants to study...so I thought it would be nice if people could post some effective study tips. It can be something simple, or something creative. For example:

Last year, my geography teacher would always come up with some fun ways for us to remember where the countries we were studying where. For remembering the "order" in which Canada's provinces were, she told us to remember BASMOQ= British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec. (And we just had to figure out the other little islands :laughing: ).

Or just any simple things you have. :)

~Take notes. You should NEVER have to reread a chapter, but only study your notes.

good idea southpaw!!here are a few that help me..
Take in depth notes that you wont regret later
PAY ATTENTION TO THE MATERIAL (sounds dumb&obvious :rolleyes: ,but it really helps)
Set aside time to study..dont wait until the last minute
While studying,maybe listen to some classical music.i have read about this& tried it.it really helps
Ask someone to quiz you on the material you are studying.it helps you remember things :)

{i pinned this topic.hope noone minds.if you feel it shouldnt be pinned,please feel free to unpin ;) }

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to back Kelly Bear up on this one! While attending MG's last Back to School night, her principal addressed this issue. According to her, studies have shown that playing music while studying (it doesn't have to be classical...it can be any type that the person enjoys) does increase retention and helps promote better grades....so her advice? Let the kids pump up the music while studying!

Personally, whenever I am working on a project that requires significant attention, I have always found I am much more relaxed and better able to concentrate when listening to ocean/meditation music. Its my fave for these types of tasks!

Yeah, I also listen to music while doing homework and such. I don't know, it's kind of fun to sing while trying to figure out math problems! :cheeky: Adds a bit of "fun" to something so boring!

I've always wanted to try making a song out of things that may be on a test. Everyone remembers their favorite songs, so why not make one that will help you a bit? Of course, I'm not very creative...it would be interesting to hear if anyone has done this. :scratchchin:

~Thanks for pinning this, Kelly. I was going to, but then decided to wait and see if anyone replied to it! :laughing:

My tips? :huh: HuH??I would just tell what I do :rolleyes: I'm still a kid,so,please I'm just learning!!When anyone is at home(well,sleeping yes)I ussually turn my bro's music thing.But low,so only I can hear it and I don't disturb the ppl that are with me!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think a good tip is to get rest each time you'll like.For 5 min,like a break.But remember that it has to be normal,not like 30 sec of watching TV and 1000 H of studying!! :laughing:
Which you have to do,also,is concentrate ONLY in your work and not in your hammie(sorry lil cute cuddly animals that are my favorite animals!! :guilty: )but a lil bit :rolleyes: not just stay looking at him/Her like for 10 H,just 5 min looking b4 starting(for example)and then,rested..Lets go to LearningLand!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So hope they helped!! :wave:

That is what we do im my school to SP,and we also do like to remember the states we take like Rhode Island,Maryland,Hawaii,and Oregon.Then we do this

Rhode Island
Maryland
Hawaii
Oregon

Then we take the first letter in the state and do something like this rats must have oranges,but in Rhode Island we would only do Rhode instead of Island.

Know shorthand or make your own shorthand language for taking quick and easy notes.

ALWAYS re-type your notes everyday. You get a second view of them.

I have a spanish test tomorrow and I'm so dead.

Tip: Make sure that around your area there is nothing distracting like tv. Also, try not to pre-occupy your head with something else.

hmm...Work in a comfortable area..
Like KB says, listen to classical music, really helps
LOL, but DOnt go onto HH! I get severly distracted....hehehe!

And make notes along the way that may be useful.
The thing Southpaw said, BASMOQ, helps, like BEDMAS, for maths..anyone taking a guess what the letters stand for?

i like to study in my sch canteen. unlike in shops like coffee bean or even mac's, i dont have to be obliged to buy drinks to sit at the table.
there is usually a nice level of background noise too. (uh, of cuz i dun go there during lunch hrs!) =P

most impt thing..... stay away fr ur comp. it is too much distraction. HH, games (even spider solitaire!) etc.....email....msn, icq..... haha

studying in sch is great cos have teachers around to help...sometimes I'll go down to sch to study too...the canteen's really noisy, watever time it is, so i'll go to the study corner which is a bit noisy or the library if I really want a quiet place to study

#2 Focus, focus focus
#3 Keep an organized planner. Then you won't forget anything
#4 This works for me~chew gum, it help calm you down and the chewing I guess is relaxing. Our teacher told us that.
