I am looking at the PureBites chicken. Is there any difference other than  size for the dog vs cat bites? They both list chicken as their only ingredient but the cat bites are double the cost per oz than the dog. Am I missing something or it is just marketing?

Both are fine to use, just that the dog pieces are bigger than the cat ones. :)

Thanks for confirming he is a robo. I was worried that he was not growing as big as I expected and started researching breeds more, which lead me to my "shocking" discover that the pet store had no idea. I was reading and playing around with tax's calculator and thought adding chicken bites might be the way to go. I have dried meal worms but too many of them would push the fat too hight. I could not easily figure out if the green lentils, split peas, or quinoa would add and protein to the seed mix.

Unfortunately, I just bought food. I have 350 grams SSS and 820 Hazels. I don't mind dumping the power 5. I really only bought it to ease him into what I thought was better food, since that is what he was eating. Other than the low variety and protein, is there any other reason not to try and use up some of the Hazels and SSS? I am going to aim for the 50/50 sunburst and mazuri mix that seems to be very popular in the future. But if using what I have to make a suitable mix will work I would prefer not to waste as much before dumping it.

Is the goal of 20% protein for adults? When are they technically considered adults?

Thank you for being patient with me!

If you just bought the food, you may be able to return it, many of the chain pet stores have very generous return policies. :)

Yes, 20% protein for adult robos. For babies under 6 months, I'd try to push it higher for this species, into the 22% range. When you do switch to Mazuri/Higgins, for this species, continuing to use a high protein mix in like the purebites to maintain the higher 20% protein level is best.

lentils, split peas, and quinoa can make good snacks, but won't help you with the protein.

I agree with Robin regarding robos needing smaller seeds than what is available in Hazel.

The only difference between the cat and dog purebites is size of the package and of the treats inside- cat are cut smaller. Dog is cheaper, but you'll need to break up the chunks into smaller pieces.

Hello,

is there anyone willing to help me with figuring out a good food mix for my syrian hamster, please? :)

I can use these store bought mixes:

Versele-laga Nature: protein 18%, fat 9%, fiber 8% - good protein, but low in variety, has pellets

Witte Molen - PUUR: protein 13.3%, fat 7%, fiber 8.1% - medium in protein, medium variety, has a bit of pellets

JR Farm - Adult: protein 11.4%, fat 5.8%, fiber 5.7% - low in protein, but amazing variety, no pellets

I can also use pellets:

Versele Laga complete: protein 19.5%, fat 5%, fiber 5.5%

Than I wanted to add some extra dried veggie and herbs from PUUR - protein 8.6%, fat 1.4%, fiber 12.5%

I really want to use the JR Farm, because of the variety, but it is so low in protein, that it is hard to get enough protein in the mix. I dont understand that it has so low protein, because it has quite a lot of insect in already. And I dont want to add too much other insects to the mix because of it. Also, adding a bit of the vegetable with herbs lowers the protein as well.

Which of these food mixes would you mix and what would you add to incease the protein?

I tried to play with the percentages, but I am not sure what to decide on, so I would like to get someone elses opinion on what would they do.

Hi, I am new. I have a Winterwhite, I am in Québec, Canada.

1. I would like to buy the Sunburst .  Do you know retalers online with free shipping ?

2. I would like to mix it with Purebites chicken and just a little bit of Mealworm to avoid too much fat. Can someone tell me if 94% Sunburst, 4 % Purebites chicken and lets say 2% mealworm would be too fatty ??? What pourcentage do you recommand ?

thanks a lot.
