Hamlet's getting used to being flipped over, because everyday I would have to flip him and dab his abscess with water (and plus I had to check on it too!) but he sure is a squirmer. But I just hold on, it doesn't stop me..

That's Why, It Was SO Hard, For me to Tell too ...

Diana is Tame, Camilla Isn't, yet ...

She Will Be Though!

I was just checking the sexo f my baby hamsters, and it just seems like they're all guys! But, does the female sexual open stick out a little or anything? Or are they all really just boys?

After looking at these pictures I realize my male RCD named Scamper
is a definitely a female. I'm so embarrassed.  Sent pictures to family
and friends telling them what a cute little guy he is.

Maybe I should change her name to Munchkin or Itsy Bitsy.
Maybe not because she comes to Scamper.  Oh well.

I'm so glad you posted these pics.  They are very clear on how to tell the sex
of Dwarf hamsters.  Great job!!

I got a question. What's the "proffessional" way to hold a hamster when you're trying to figure out their gender? Is there a good way to hold them so the can't squirm around and stuff? I've been trying to do it iwth one of my brother's hamsters, but it's really hard. I think he's a male, but i'm not totally sure cause he keeps moving a lot. Please refrain from suggesting they be tame first, not everyones hamsters are tame :p

Here's two good webpages with info on sexing syrians.  The first one has diagrams and the second one has photos.  You'll be a pro in no time! ;)

ty so much! its VERY hard for me to tell as she has SOOOO much fur, it is a female i think. well.. im very happy i got a lil "girl" and i luv her, though she is not very tame AT ALL, she does NOT bite me and has NEVER bitten me though she is the most skittish hamster ive ever owned. i hope i can tame her, i actually found her loose in my room this morning along with 2 of my dwarf hams in the same room! im surprised that she didnt kill my 2 dwarfies! i guess they scared her and she crammed herself into a corner behind my dwarf Rascal's wire cage.. looked painful actually.. and then i found the 2 dwarfies behind my bed..

lol ive had SO many adventures with these little pets, although the dwarves have been more exciting i cant blame the syrians, ive only had this one about 2 weeks and the one i had before was my 1st one who only sadly lasted about 9-10 days. so i dont have much experience with the syrians.   :goodvibes:

 Hi i'm  a newbie here. I was wondering if someone could help me with knowing the sex of my teddy bear hamster.  I thought he was a male, but i don't see the testicles all the time. In fact, i only see what looks like testicles every once in a while, they come out and go back in after a while. Is my hamster a female or male?

I notice that the female dwarf's underside looks much less hairy. Is that something I can look for when sexing or is that not a reliable feature?
