Contests are very popular events here on Hamster Hideout. In the past we have used an approval system to make sure things stay organized and that there are no duplicate contests. 
We have now decided that members will not need to message anyone for approval prior to creating their contest!
HOWEVER, there are some guidelines:
1) Each contest must be unique. That means if there is a similar contest currently running, please don't create another one! (For example, a hamster photo contest is too similar to HOTM.)
2) Contests should allow all forum members to cast a vote. The winner may not be chosen by the contest host alone. (This means you will have one contest thread, and one voting thread.)
3) Contests and voting should take place in the contest section only, not through PMs and not in any other board.
4) If you create a contest, you're responsible for running it! That means:
- Keeping track of the thread for questions and entries,
- Setting a closing date and time in the opening post,
(to help keep the board organized, please post dates in each thread)
- Sticking to the deadlines you set. Please be prompt and responsible!
5) Members may only host one active contest at a time. Members can create different contests, but they cannot be open and active at the same time. Basically, wait until you're finished with one contest to start another.
6) Contest hosts can customize their own rules and prizes. Be creative! It's your contest, have fun with it. Simply make sure that everyone can participate and each has a fair shot at winning. Hosts are welcome to demonstrate their own "entries", but we do ask that hosts not actually compete in their own contests.
7) In order to keep things fair, recurring contests must be posted by the 10th of the month. If you're running the "Widget of the Month" contest, you must post April's contest by April 10th. If you do not, another member will be allowed to post a similar contest if they wish. This is to prevent members from having "dibs" on certain types of contests and then never actually running them.

We do have some contests that do repeat each month. Please don't create a similar contest.
