Hamster of the Month Roster

 

 

 

Hey guys    It's HOTM sign up time!  

 

If you participated in the last roster, please allow someone new to take a turn (this includes drop-outs). If spots are not all filled within the first 1 week of posting this thread, then it will re-open to past volunteers.

 

Feedback on how well this volunteer system worked - from the volunteers themselves and from the participants - is highly encouraged

I'm sure that everyone has heard of the Hamster of the Month contest, and many of you have participated, showing off your awesome photography skills.  

 

We are looking for active members who are willing to take on the responsibility of running this popular contest for one month at a time.  

 

 

Here's how it works:

• Each month there will be a pair of members who run the contest, so that they can help each other in case one gets swamped in real life.
• We (the mods) will organize the volunteers as best as possible so that the contest runs smoothly. There will be one team per month, so be patient, your turn will come up eventually!
• The Volunteer Call Sheet is posted below so that everyone can see and keep track of when they will be running the contest.

 

 

What would you do?

• Come up with a contest theme.
• Create the Contest Thread on the first day of your month.
• Create the Voting Thread on the 16th of your month.
• Announce the winner on the last day of your month.
• If you are the banner artist - create a banner for the winner and post it in the winner announcement thread.
• If you are the backup team - you take over the contest if the main team has not posted HOTM by the third of the month.

 

 

Rules for the contest organizers:

• Remember that this is for fun! Encourage the conversation to stay light-hearted, not competitive.
• Did a member break a contest rule, or not follow the theme? Kindly quote their post to bring it to their attention. Members deserve one warning before being disqualified. If there is an issue, please contact a mod for help.
• Remember that this is a responsibility as well as fun. In order for it to be fun, please make sure your threads are posted and closed when you say they will be.
• Make sure that the Contest Rules are posted in your contest thread.
• Your theme should be fun and easy for everyone to follow.
• This is a team effort! Have good communication with your partner. This will minimize confusion and keep everything running smoothly.

 

 

Basic template for contest rules:

• No cheating! This shouldn't have to be said, but it's worth covering anyway. Both the picture and the hamster in it must belong to you. That is, don't take pictures off the internet and claim them as your own.
• Don't make fake accounts to vote multiple times. Don't use the forum, PM function, or status bar to promote any entry. Don't post "pity posts" ("Everyone else's pictures are so great! Mine will never win.") to try to sway people into voting for you.
• You are only allowed to enter one picture per month. Please only have one picture in your submission post (aka, please do not ask within this thread for opinions on which image to enter.)
• If you win, then you are to wait at least three months before entering again, to be fair to everyone. A winning photo cannot be re-entered at any time. You can post the same picture from a previous contest (provided it hasn’t won) for up to 3 months.
• Editing should be kept to simple edits such as cropping, sharpness, and resizing. No color changes, background changes, stickers, or other embellishments are allowed.
• Any pictures that depict hamsters in unsafe situations will be immediately disqualified.
• Please do not quote submission pictures if you are looking to compliment them. Quote the post but delete the pictures! This makes the entries easier to see and keeps the thread neat.

Hi, I'd like to do it, any month is fine, sorry for starting one this month if it wasnt allowed. I would prefer to do the contest and not the banner, as I am not great at that If starting the unofficial one this month means I cant join the list, dont worry Just add me if theres a  space!
