I can't really see much in the picture.. the jar kinda warps the stomach area, and it's a little blurry, so I can't really see characteristics of either sex.

 

You can probably get a clearer look, so maybe this will be of use:

From the picture, it kinda looks like a male to me. But I could be wrong as the picture is quite blurry.

Try to get a clearer picture, so we can help you out more. Also, look at the pictures Rosemary showed you. Those are helpful.

The best way to understand whether a hamster is male or female is to look at the anogenital distance. Check the distance between the genital openings (penile opening in male hamsters; vaginal and urinary openings in females) and the anus. This distance is much shorter in females than males. You can also find free video on the net and understand how to do that correctly.

If you find what has been mistaken as a swollen bum congrats it his testicle.

If you find two crest of little dots congrats it her nipples.
