i don't actually have an excuse for how late or how BADLY i executed this episode, but it does not matter !!! i DID it !!! that makes it 100% better
(i'm also really tired so maybe that's why it's fine lmao i'll see how i think about this once i'm actually.... sane and awake)
there are quite a few mistakes, mostly me forgetting words and/or grammar wise!! ignore them !!!!!

I know you feel like this one wasn’t as well executed as usual but honestly I think it might be one of my favs (and might have called me out a little too hard on my 2019 ✨falsettos✨ obsession whoops).

You have immaculate taste in musicals, my friend. (And the fact that your top three were all Borle musicals had me dead, what a bald icon, we stan.) What are your fav songs from those musicals?? Unlikely lovers from falsettos makes me bawl every time (tbf the entirety of act 2 makes me bawl but anyways...). Gay or European is a banger, but Chip on My Shoulder is just 10/10, we love good old Christian recommending 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner.

Also, Andy Randy appreciation!!! I have read his memoir and dude it is wild. (Feat. Catholic priests being extremely problematic and smol Andy Randy being very very gay.) honestly, Big trigger warning. But I would recommend if you wanna know more about him bc his life is so interesting and a whole drama in itself, and he’s got an impeccable sense of humour, which really comes through in his writing!

Sorry, I digress (this has turned into me also rambling about musicals, except in a far less artistic way than you...)

I agree with pretty much all the recs on your list, but ones I’d add are Newsies, Waitress and In The Heights (musicals that will make you wanna both jump on a table and dance, and cry your heart out.)

I also 100% agree with your point about not gatekeeping the musical theatre community. I am much more of a fan of modern mainstream musicals like DEH than the classics like Company, etc. I don’t think it makes me any less of a complete piece of musical trash.

i have been in a bit of a christian borle phase lately IDJGGFG .... a borled egg, one might say.

(i told my friend about his bald phase and she decided to have him in his glory of baldness as her pfp for a few days, it was great)

 

unlikely lovers !!!! such a sweet song , i adore it SO MUCH. i also have a lot of love for 'this had better come to a stop' ,,,, i don't actually have a reason i just get excited whenever it comes up but it's great! also i do love all the solos everybody gets (except for the lesbians next door since they arrived act 2,,, if they did get a solo/duet together the world would explode, they'd be too powerful). tdlr whole musical EIFFKF. AHA gay or european has such a dear place in my heart! and chip on your shoulder GOD, remarkable...

 

would also like to mention 'so much better' (cause laura bell bundy GOD... but also it's got such an energy i will never achieve ever) and 'legally blonde' (i have to brace myself for it whenever it comes on... "OH NO it's SAD now!!!! i'll just have to endure it for like three minutes and then wait for the remix version ....too bad i can't really do that for falsettos).

 

oh my god thank you for recommending it to me !! i 100% want to read it now... i have added it to my amazon wishlist, and that's how i found out that the falsettos proshot is on prime ?? woah the more you know.

 

tbh i may or may not have made this episode purely because i wanted to discuss musicals with someone ... i did join my school's theatre program FINALLY so maybe i WILL discuss musicals with some more people,,, they won't know what hit them after they ask what musicals i like!

areogsrgj i watched newsies like after making this episode!! spectacular ! i love the choreography aaaa, i definitely need to listen to the album though so i can memorize the songs and sing them whenever i karaoke AHA. as for waitress n in the heights, i will put them on my watchlist! thank you for the lovely suggestions!!! <33

Borled egg sjdncfdvmkgk I knew he had an absurd nickname and couldn’t remember what it was for the life of me, I’m so glad u blessed my brain with this information once more. And the true test of friendship is someone who will make their pfp bald Christian borle for you.

You are so right about the lesbians being too powerful for an act 2 solo. Like, imagine a sapphic version of the thrill of first love, good Lord, i am quaking at the very thought.

Laura bell bundy is a force of nature (have you seen that documentary on YouTube where they try to look for the next Elle Woods? The drama is unmatched... but truly, after watching that it becomes even more obvious that no one can replace LBB.) ‘legally blonde’ is one of my favs too, the emotion gahh. And lmaoo we gotta rewrite the entire ending of falsettos and replace falsettoland (reprise) with falsettoland (remix) where everyone lives happily ever after with their baseball bats and gefilte fish and no one dies.

So much respect to you for joining your school’s theatre programme!!! I hope you have a blast, meet a bunch of theatre kids and live the musical nerd life of your dreams. If I’d had any drama abilities at all I would’ve done the same, but alas when I sing it sounds like an opossum dying :’) But I feel you, whenever someone asks me what music I like, I’m like “oh, just a bunch of random stuff” and if they make the mistake of digging deeper they realise that by “random stuff” I mean 75% of broadway musicals.

Couldn’t agree with you more about newsies - the choreo is insane! And I really hope you like Waitress and in the heights. Waitress is the kind of musical that will make you laugh and cry, and every song is just perfect. In the heights is another Lin Manuel Miranda classic. I personally like it more than Hamilton!! It’s about the latinx community in Washington heights and defo speaks to my 2nd-gen immigrant heart <3

oh MY GOD , thank you so much for reminding me of the documentary !! god reality tv is such a weird thing to think about,,, it was a fun watch though! i actually read a little article about them from playbill (it is not little nevermind it is lengthy BUT a good kind of lengthy!!!) about them looking back on it! here it is if you wanna take a look! (unless you already have AHA) GOD, LBB is a different breed honestly aha, she just perfectly radiated that wonderful elle woods energy!! ...that is a great idea! this time, instead of ending at 'what more can i say,' and thinking to myself, 'oh no! jason's bar mitzvah didn't happen! oh well, at least everything else is fine :]' we can have everyone alive AND a bar mitzvah!!

whenever i get to act 2 i make sure to get icecream because why else would i force myself to be in complete and utter despair without yknow.... support...

 

aaaahh thank you !! i was gonna audition with my best friend but then he was like 'i'm busy' so I PANICKED but i ended up forcing myself cause that's the only way i get myself to do things,,,, hopefully it's a blast !! i've actually been procrastinating on memorizing lines sob i swear !! i will !! sooooon. :')

oh !! maybe you could've considered theatre tech ! theatre tech sounds like a blast. (do they have a fall play + spring musical system or was it purely musicals?)
AHA i know right ??? like. do you reeeeaaaallllly wanna know. one time somebody was like 'yknow normally when you look at people you get the gist of what type of music they like, but you? i don't get you. you are very open. you could like anything.' (then i hit her with the 'yeaaaaa i'm a theatre kid but also video game tracks are *chefs kiss*')

 

thankkk yooouu!! i've been procrastinating on my musical list (i made a little list to remember which musicals i have watched, which ones i should rewatch, and which ones i should watch/listen to for the first time) and this is the perfect chance to get on that horse!! i already know a few songs from waitress, now time to see how they all connect to each other and the set designs and costumes (pretend i am sinisterly doing that one thing where you slap your hands together and they do a lil funky shift.... it's like a villain thing i don't know HOW TO DESCRIBE IT i apologize deeply) and ooOOOOO!!! that makes it even more cool!! (yessss my immigrant heart is also excited!)
