This is one of the subjects I hateeeee -____-

Basically I WANT to cut my hair short, like maybe a longish pixy cut or smth? IDK, we'll see. ANYWAYS, my mom seems to think girls can't have short hair, and she refuses to change her mind. I was talking about how annoying it is to deal with my hair because its SUPERRRRR curly and takes a LOTTTT of time to make it decent, tho I prefer to just leave it be.

Anyways, she keeps saying I should use chemicals to 'relax it' and make it straight. IDK how I feel about that honestly. My hair is super curly and when stretched out reaches mid back, but all my experince with straight hair was straightened and I couldn't even go outside without it getting curlllly. Anyways, she says it'll be permanent, so, er, opinions? I honestly know nothing about hair and kinda dont want tooooo... so... halp?

Would you be able to convince her to cut it short but not *too* short? My hair is not super long but it’s longer than shoulder length. Maybe you can do something like that?

I have zero experience with straightening hair (my hair is already very straight), but I might be able to help with the pixie cut issue. I got a pixie cut in late 2019, much to the dismay of literally every person who knew me. They were all saying, “But you’ll look like a boy!” or “You look pretty with long hair.” I cut it anyway because why not? It actually turned out really well and I got a lot of nice compliments. :) Of course there was the occasional person who mistook me for a boy, and there were a handful of people who thought me cutting my hair meant I was a lesbian. Anyway, it made me feel more me if that makes sense. Short hair was my thing; no other girl in my grade had short hair. Sorry for the tangent haha. I would ask your mom why she thinks girls shouldn’t have short hair.

My hair is just above shoulder length but I wish it were like ear length. I was thinking I could do a temporary thing where some of it is straight? IDK, I honestly wanna chop it all off ;-;

I don’t know how old you are, BUT just tell your mom that you are now an independent women with her own choices and should be free to style your hair however you want as long as YOU are happy. I mean, your not going to get a tattoo or anything so it’s fine to me I guess. If your mom just says no, then I would go with Tater’s advice (don’t do it or you will get some spankings lmao)

Ermmm..... N O P E. First of all, I'm like 98% sure I'm the youngest active member on the forum, I don't even have a bank account, a credit card, or.... well.... anything to my name. Then, she would probably get upset, think im gonne run away from home, etc. If I do Taters idea I'll be yelled at, have my devices taken away for a month, and lose the small bit of freedom I have, plus be forced to wear a pink hat whenever I leave my house.

DONT RELAX THOSE CURLS.

I had curly hair, my mom put chemicals on it, and now my hair is wavy. I wish I had my curls like I did when I was little!

Just show her some hair cuts that you are okay with that are a bit longer, but when you get it cut, tell the stylist what you really want. Then tell your mom the stylist messed it up! Good luck  :starry-eyed:

Eh, my parents say people always want hair they dont have.

But, like, my hair is too high maintinence. I wish I could just leave it and never have to deal with it, but I'm expected to CONDITION IT. DAILY. That takes like an HOUR. and then I need to COMB ALL THE KNOTS OUT which takes another hour. I also can't find any other hair cuts I like for curly hair, and whenever we do got to the hair stylist (btw, all nearby ones are closed and/or WAY to expensive, our current one, which is closed, but my hair and i hated it), plus my mom is always there, plus she would probably argue with the stylist, which would cause trouble.

I would honestly prefer wavy hair. Like, here are my reasons~

  • No more kids pulling on curls
  • No more hours of condition, detangling, etc.
  • Jopefully lower maintinence
  • Longer
  • Um................ idk, I just dont like how curly my hair is. Its hard to do anything with it that I would like to do *pixy cut*

Plus, what if I did wavy hair in like the top section, or the bottom section, but not all of it? Or a strip of wavy/straight permanently?

I'm temporarily straightening it. I'm also using olive oil, so it'll take a bit, but its already a little straighter and I only olive oiled it once. Jus tmixed it with some shampoo conditioner co wash whatchamacall it, washed my hair, badda bing badda boom. My mom also wants to try milk and honey soon.
