The others have given you very good suggestions. If you find they don't help, and your cramps are so bad that they are interfering with your daily activities, you sholud talk to your doctor. Sometimes particularly bad cramps have an underlying cause that requires treatment from a doctor.

Hello,

So I've been getting a lot of cramps, and just hurting in general lately in my lower stomach; ( Honestly, I had to cancel going to the grocery story because I started getting cramps while shopping in the garden center ). Sometimes it feels very tight and other times just feels like a stomachache transferred to my lower stomach, and whatever it is, it hurts quite a lot.

So I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for when this type of thing happens? The only one I can think of is heating up a heating pad and placing it on my stomach, ( It works wonders ) and sometimes having hot tea with it. ( That's what I'm doing as I write this ). However I'm curious to learn if there are any other helpful ways, just to see if any of them might possibly be better, or since the heat pad and tea won't always follow me around.

Any tips will be appreciated. :)

My cousin once said that she pities those who get period cramps and pains since she doesn't get them, and I wondered how possibly bad those types of pains could be and here I am.

I recently learnt that while period cramps are common, they’re not entirely normal, and it means something is wrong. Normally, it’s nothing bad, and you can live through it or take some pain killers, but extreme cramps need to be seen and treated by a gynecologist.
I don’t mean to scare you, I’m just saying that taking pain killers every month is not healthy, and can have long term affects. A doctor will help the root issue, rather than only treating the pain.
Good luck

Thank you all for your helpful tips! ( I have to quote too many people ).

I'll try to see if I can manage to get any of the medicine you recommended me next time I'm out on errands, but until then I'll try hot water/tea, taking a bath, heat, etcetc. :)

I agree, haha. I just have no motivation to do anything, and I get super moody about... mainly food and strange cravings. Yesterday, it was hot buns and today it was cake. Honestly, while I was struggling to even get into a sitting position on my couch I was told I couldn't get cake and I literally, ( and I'm not lying ) started to cry. It's a really silly thing to cry over, but honestly, I really wanted cake that I couldn't help myself. Some strawberry pie helped though, and I went from pouty to happy in about a few seconds :)

Sorry I'm so late! For me half an advil works in about 20 minutes...But thoses 20 minutes are still horrible o_o

I'm pretty sure you can get them from Canada cuz that's where we get ours from...(we have to ship it, that's how good it is...)

For tea, I find ginger tea really great and add some honey, mmmmmmmm~

And as everyone and you have already said, heating pad is great

Also, lying on your stomach and have someone else (or try to yourself) rub your back in circles also feels nice.

Light exercise also helps to untwist your stomach :)

It's just a brand name for ibuprofen, you can get it everywhere. 55p for a pack of 16 from Tesco, for example. No need to ship it from Canada.............

I know, but the ones in the UK seem to work slower because they are 'long lasting' and when you're in pain that extra 10 or 20 minutes it takes for the Ibuprofen to get to work feels like hours!!!! :sorry:

Just look for the ones labelled "rapid", eg. https://www.boots.com/boots-pharmaceuticals-rapid-ibuprofen-lysine-342-mg-tablets-16-tablets-10103591

My cousin once said that she pities those who get period cramps and pains since she doesn't get them, and I wondered how possibly bad those types of pains could be and here I am.

If they are really bad like mine, 1 tylenol and 2 ibuprofen. Otherwise, just 2 ibuprofen  Hot water bottle, raspberry leaf tea is great for cramps, I drink two cups every day of my period.

Also, ladies, very strong period cramps to the point where they are debilitating are not normal and should be checked out by a doctor. Some things are reproductive issues and can be reversed if caught soon enough. I found out a bit too late in life =/ Some day I will likely need a surgery.

Oooh! I've never seen that one! I'll have to go look for it... So far everywhere I've looked I've only been able to find the long lasting ones....

Back pain ones are also Ibprofen and lysine active ingredients so work as great period pain killers and work quickly I was advised this by a pharmacist a long time ago its another pink tax on period pain killers.

Echoing what others said about seeing the doctor, especially if it's interrupting your functioning. Things like PCOS and endometriosis can make periods unbelievably painful. My family doctor and gyn have prescribed me a few different things that help, birth control helping the most.

NSAIDS are great (Ibuprofen (Motrin & Advil)). Skip aspirin. The only thing necessary to mention is if you take ace inhibitors (like if you have hypertension/high blood pressure for example) you definitely should not take these medications. Never hurts to consult your doctor and definitely ask your parents before taking any medication. I would advise against taking NSAIDS for more than 3 days in a row. So pick your days wisely. -- All this information is sourced by a nearly 3rd year medical student

There is also a stuffed hamster (they make other animals too) on the market from the brand Warmies that you stick in the microwave and it is probably the best $25 I've spent this year. It's similar to a hot water bottle, but it's filled with some sort of seed and lavender that heats up in the microwave.

Hello!

I know this is Alis' topic, but I don't think it's necessary for me to make a new topic when my question relates to this topic.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to eat on your period and what not to? Like what foods should you avoid on your period?

For example, I know a lot of people that say eating ice cream makes you feel better, but then others say that eating ice cream worsens your cramps, so idk what to believe.

When I'm on my period, I crave a lot of junk food. I get really horrible cramps whenever I eat hot Cheetos on my period because I just crave them so much.

Thanks in advance!

I would probably give a terrible answer because I get these weird cravings and I would go to the end of the world to eat them, regardless of whether they would be good or not :')

Another topic might be good; more people would see it, and what you're asking doesn't necessarily overlap heavily with this topic, and I'd definitely be curious as to what people would say :)
