My favourite that I do every long holiday is a gradient pink-purple-blue. Like this: (this isn't me!)

Yeah, some gradient dyes look drop-dead gorgeous imo. My favorites are usually purple to lighter purple, the same with blue, pink and purple gradients, and blue-green :)

Hi guys!

So I've wanted to dye my hair purple for some time now, and I've received permission from my parents and I hope to do so soon. I'm using semi-permanent dyes, so it will only be temporary. My natural hair is dark blonde/light brown, and I don't want to bleach for the first time (maybe at some point, though), so the shade of whatever color I choose can't be lighter than my natural shade. Unless I use a hair dye formulated for dark hair, but I don't think I will..

Anyway, what colors are your favorites, if you like unnatural colors at all?

I was thinking a dark, uniform purple, like this shade:

Or maybe a blue, like this:

And if I decided at some point to do a more natural color, my skin tone would probably work okay with this color:

Thoughts, ideas?

I think you should do streaks of teal!

I really like teal, but I think I would rather do a solid tone the first time. But maybe in the future! Idk if I would go with more frequent streaks or more infrequent. But I am in love with teal for hair! It's so GORGEOUS imo! :)

You won't get teal on your hair, unfortunately, not without bleaching. Teal only really looks good on a basically white base. If your hair is dark blonde/light brown, it'll just look like a muddy swamp. :( Believe me, I've tried lol - my natural hair goes from dark blonde in winter to a lighter blonde in summer, but even at its lightest in summer, any attempts at teal just look muddy unless I've bleached it first.

One thing you can do if you're wary of bleach, is to just do the tips. First time I did this because I really REALLY wanted a vibrant turquoise was to just bleach the bottom 1-2 inches, then I could do any dye colours I liked when each one washed out, then at the end of the summer (back to work, boooooo) I just had a trim like I'd normally do and cut off 2 inches of bleached hair - no damage to the rest :)

Huh, that kinda sucks. But your plan makes a lot of sense if I wanted to just bleach the bottom or to experiment with bleach in order to see what it would actually do to my hair. And to be honest, I'm not too worried about bleaching. If I have to do it, then I will, and I'm okay with going a lighter blonde once the semi-permanent color washes out.

You guys. Still not allowed to dye yet, but I got permission from my dad today to do a side shave! I'm so excited! I may chicken out, sure, but right now, I'm really digging the idea of one. I've been thinking very sparingly about it for a few months now, never really considering it super seriously, but that has changed. I think I might get my sister to do it in a few days, and if she doesn't want to, I might mess around with our clippers myself :P So pumped!

Sorry, totally not mocking YOU at all here, but I find this hilarious xD So you can't do a temporary and totally reversible dye (worst case scenario you just buy some "normal colour" dye and put it on to cover up the mess...) but you CAN do a side shave that's not reversible and won't grow out for ages? xD This is brilliant I absolutely love the weird logic of your dad lol.

Actually, an update. Talked to my parents and I'm allowed to do the hair dye! I'm so pumped right now! I think I'll go purple or blue. Just a semi-permanent and we'll see how it goes!

I talked to my parents openly and:

My dad doesn't care much either way, he's not a fan of dyes much, but he doesn't mind.

YES!

My mom is okay with hair dye, but hates side shaves, so that's a no.

*SQUEEEEEE* Yay! Hope you share photos when you're done.

Manic Panic is excellent and has an amazing range of colours.

I like the purple. I've never dyed my hair because it's dark, so nearly all colors would require bleaching.

I'm glad you talked things through with your parents. I think more employers would be okay with dyed hair vs. a side shave, but it depends on the industry and vibe of the workplace.

Yeah, most people in my family don't like it either. But I do and I got permission, so I think I will. And yes, my hair will never be the same, but in my eyes it's only hair and it will grow back. So to be honest, I don't mind the damage :)

Really? Dang. Well, I'm okay with bleaching, but just not the first time because we all know bleach is really, really permanent. But if I like the color I go with, I'm good to bleach in order to dye a different color. Besides, I'm not a huge fan of pastels, so I don't need to get my hair to whitelist, just light enough to go over it with another color.

Well I hope it works out well for you!

This doesnt really relate to the OG topic, but since it's a topic about hair dye--

In the future, ( Perhaps in a year or so? ) I want to dye, preferably semi-permanently my hair a lighter shade of brown. It of course won't be *very* unnatural but I still want to do it haha.
