any help is appreciated!
Here are some of my favorite books (in no particular order), most are fantasy or dystopian:
Sorcery of Thorns: This is a fantasy story with demons, sorcerers, and living books. It’s definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year. There’s a bit of romance, but it never goes past kissing. It’s also one of the rare fantasy YA standalone novels. This book is also very inclusive and has characters of different sexualities. The main character is also taller than her male love interest, which is definitely not something you see very often.
Keeper of the Lost Cities: This one is also a fantasy. A young girl named Sophie has to leave her family and fights to protect the Lost Cities. There is a love triangle that the main character is painfully oblivious to. However, there are a lot of likable characters and it’s definitely a good series in my opinion.
The Giver: After being chosen as the next Receiver of Memory, Jonas soon realizes that the society he lives in may not be as perfect as he once thought. This is definitely my favorite book. I’d really recommend it.
Warriors: These books follow groups of feral cats and how they survive. With these books, you will never run out of things to read. The last time I counted them all up, I believe there’s about 70+ (if you count the novellas separately, that is). There are eight main arcs (series) as well as Super Editions (longer standalone books), novellas (mini stories that come in groups of three), mangas (graphic novels), and field guides. They are mostly geared towards preteens, but I still enjoy them.
The Hunger Games: You’ve probably heard of this one. Your parents may not wanting you reading it though. It’s about a yearly festivity of sorts where 24 kids between 12-18 have to fight to the death. The last book in the quartet is my favorite.
The Maze Runner: This one definitely felt very similar to The Hunger Games and Divergent to me. A boy named Thomas wakes up in the middle of a maze without any memories, just like all the boys who showed up there before him. They have to survive monsters and work to figure out why they were put there.
The Missing: A boy named Jonah and his friend Chip have been getting threatening letters in the mail. They soon uncover mysterious circumstances surrounding both of their adoptions. This one is a really fun book. It includes time travel and simultaneously teaches you about the past (the Romanov family, the Lindbergh baby, Henry Hudson, etc.).
I may add more books as I think of them.
Edit: I’m already back to add more haha.
The Inheritance Games: A billionaire named Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves his fortune to a young girl named Avery in his will. However, Avery has never met or even heard of Mr. Hawthorne. This book is full of puzzles and is definitely fun so far. From where I’m at right now, there definitely seems like there’s going to be a bit of romance. This one is the only realistic fiction I’ve read in a while.
House of Salt and Sorrows: Annaleigh’s family is cursed, or so everyone says. Had mother and four of her sisters are dead. The circumstances surrounding her last sister’s death lead her to believe it was no accident, and she’s determined to find out who killed her. This book was pretty good. It does contain a birthing scene and quite a few characters die, so your parents may not want you reading this. I thought I might as well mention it though.
