I'm feeding my hamsters

1TBSP Versele-Laga hamster complete
http://hamsterhideout.com/forum/topic/132155-hamster-nutrition-iv-commercial-hamster-food-list/page-2#entry1431391

2TBSP Versele-Laga crispy cereal
http://hamsterhideout.com/forum/topic/132155-hamster-nutrition-iv-commercial-hamster-food-list/page-5#entry1487273

3 Sunseed critter cubes
http://hamsterhideout.com/forum/topic/132155-under-construction/?p=1431388

I've done research and Versele-Laga seem to be one of the best brands in Canada for hamster food

Should I change or add to there daily diet?
Is this the proper mix of these brands?

Hamster food needs to be weighed out for a good GA (protein, fat, fiber), not just tablespoons. https://www.miscota.com/small-animals/versele-laga/p-165286?r=5410340614198&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3Ymd1LTS8wIVAZSzCh0vwgufEAQYAiABEgI5mvD_BwEIs pretty good on its own for an adult if it’s all you can find, though the varieties a bit low. If your hamster is younger you’d want to weigh in protein as well, like dried chicken.

I've did more research and found a calculator designed by tax on here and I put my recipe in and here's the results
TOTAL PROTEIN 17%
TOTAL FAT 7%
TOTAL FIBER 6%

Is this good?

I have a baby and senior hamster.

This is what I now understand to do and feed:

Recommend
Protein 16%
Fat 5%
Fiber 8%
5 tsp veg weekly
2 tsp fruit weekly
But only 1 tsp daliy

My recipe
1 Tbsp pelts
2 Tbsp mix
1 block
Daily
=
Protein 17%
Fat 7%
Fiber 6%

My recipe pros and cons
Protein is great.

Fat is high due to peanuts and sunflower seeds less will fixes.

Fibers is low, but fruit and veg levels it out.

You don’t need to stick to exact amounts-the GA is great, and you can be way more flexible with fat and fiber. Fat could go up to 10% depending on the individual ham and you can have more protein. Fiber is good as well. For a baby hamster aim for 20ish % protein, but this is good for an adult or senior.

Assuming you’ve weighed out the food (tablespoons will always weigh different so that doesn’t work), I’d weigh in more protein-dried chicken from a brand like pure bites is great for variety :)

I saw on couple of posts that you specifically recommend Pure Bites. I found another chicken-dried brand cheaper. Do you think it would be lower quality ? It says on the package its breast chicken........

As long as it’s just chicken it should work, though you’ll need to work out the nutritional amounts to make sure the ratio’s good. I mainly recommend pure bites because it’s the only brand I know of, and a certain size bag mixes with a full bag of Higgins sunburst to create a good GA for an adult hamster. :)

I would look at the country of origin and also research the company a bit. It's a raw poultry product, so it's important that the chickens are raised and processed in a way that reduces the risk of contamination.

Can you give us a link? There are several ways chicken is dried and prepared for dog/cat treats- some of them are safe, and some are not. Being able to see what you're considering would give us more information to determine if it's a suitable substitute.

Are those safe ?

And now I've learned the French word for freeze-dried.

These are Canadian products, so they are probably cheaper because they aren't imported from the USA like Purebites.

Here's the VitaLife home website: https://www.vitalifemadewithlove.com/

I didn't find the Pure Balance home website, but I only looked through a couple pages of results.

Pure Balance is a brand made by Walmart. I don't know if its available in US.  I could not find any website either, and even if it was listed in stock....there was nothing in store  . lol Poor Walmart... I bought Vitalife.
