I have been vehemently snapping hammy photos every time we take Twiglet out, to the point where the hammy photos on my phone probably outnumber the photos of myself xD Can anyone relate? Like all hammies, she's a speedy gal, which makes her a real challenge to photograph without ending up as an indistinguishable blur. My current technique is to madly press the shutter button on my phone repeatedly, and pray that at least one of the photos is in focus. If anyone has better ideas, other than forking out on a fancy camera, please let me know.

 

I'm still in the process of sorting through the ridiculous number of Twiglet photos I now have, so will probably be posting my favs on here haphazardly and unchronologically. So if she looks like she's shrinking, it's probably because it's an earlier photo!

 

Anyway, I am posting now to update you on her coat. Honestly, I still don't know what colour this hamster actually is, because she looks different every time the lighting changes. But I had a hunch that her coat was also changing colour, and have now compiled photographic evidence...

 

 

First off, I don't know where her white raccoon eyebrows have disappeared to Currently mourning the loss of them. Rip Twiglet's raccoon eyebrows, gone but not forgotten </3 She also now has asymmetric eye bags! If you look at the second photo, her left undereye is white, whilst her right undereye is still grey. No clue what's happening there. She's also chubbier, which more straightforward to explain (maybe we should go easier on the sunflower seeds...). Overall, I think she has less of a baby face now, and looks more Wizened, but still very cute indeed.

 

 

Secondly, her coat looks distinctly patchier than before. My mum is holding her in both of these photos. On the right, you can see more patches of light grey and hints of beige. What a splotch muffin.

 

 

Lastly, I am convinced that her arse is getting whiter (like my arse whenever I move away from my asian parents lol). The photos below aren't particularly flattering, but they show it the most clearly.

 

 

 

 

 

 

So, all in all, her face is getting darker and her butt is getting lighter. I am Very Confused. I presume she's got some WW genes in her (she definitely resembles a sapphire WW to me), and this is her winter coat coming through? I doubt it would be general aging, since the photos were taken only a week apart, and Twigsy's currently around 6-7 months old, so is only in her quarter-life in hamster years ;)

 

I've never had a hamster change colour before, so have no experience with this. If anyone has a better idea of what's going on, please do enlighten me! Whatever's happening, though, it's very exciting! I will keep you all updated

Just wanted to stop by and say that Twiglet is absolutely adorable!! What a precious bean  woah that's so cool that her coat is changing colors! I bet it is probably a bit of change due to the season as I have heard others mention that before even on hybrids, but I'm not 100% sure as I haven't had a dwarf of my own before. 

 

Also, a tip for pictures I've heard of is to take a video, then screenshot the frames you like the best! Haven't been able to try myself as I am still hamster-less.. but one day! (hopefully soon)

These photos are all from about a week ago. Twiglet's coat seems to be changing faster than I can keep track! There was a short period of time where she looked like she had a heart on her bum, so of course I proceeded to take an unholy number of photos of her butt to capture its beauty.

 

Below are the few that were in focus xD Hopefully you can see the "heart" shape I'm talking about, but I have drawn a very bad outline in the last photo to make it clearer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sadly, her white raccoon eyebrows are all but gone :') I might have to make a tribute post in memory of them. In my previous post, I thought she was getting lighter. I now think her butt had stayed the same colour, but the rest of her was getting darker, which was why I mistakenly thought her butt was getting lighter haha.

 

Since taking the above photos, the dark "outline" around the heart has expanded leaving her with a mostly dark grey butt, and a light grey band around her middle. I expected her to turn lighter, considering it's winter, but she has shown herself to be a total oddball of a hamster so far, so I guess her unorthodox colour changing is just another one of those quirks xD It's a delight to watch, though, and I hope you guys are enjoying it too

I still have a whole buildup of earlier photos that I still haven't posted yet because I am regrettably a ☆chronic procrastinator☆, but for now, here are some I took the past couple of days. (Twiglet is living her best 2022 you guys.)

 

I've been letting her free roam in my bedroom, and she has since claimed the corner beneath my bookshelf as Her Spot. Whenever she gets bored of exploring, she'll run towards the shadowy corner and just lurk there. The same place every time. It's hilarious. Usually, she'll proceed to go through her routine of: groom, spit out poop from bum, eat seed from pouch, repeat, until she gets tired and conks out completely. Sometimes I'll mindlessly scroll through instagram for a few minutes while she's vibin in that corner and I'll forget she's even there.
