Heyo!

Does anybody have a suggestion or suggestions for plot inspiration? I feel like sticking with a dystopian universe, but as long as there are high stakes, I don't really care that much. But yeah, dystopian fits the vibe I'm after.

Anyhoo, ideas? I had one, and I'm not super happy with it, so I might abandon it/alter it heavily. Not sure. It depends on whether or not I could find something better (and I'm sure I can eventually). I would rather not explain this idea, though, if it can be helped.

Any ideas?

The climate is on the brink of calliopes. Masks are work everywhere to avoid disease from the toxic air. Overpopulation is everywhere. Barely any nature (animals, fields, woods) are left. Someone finds one of the last remaining forests and does everything they can to save it while the government wants to destroy it (their motive is to keep people from knowing the woods ever existed, and they’re considered stories or legends only).

Or, there’s a prison where people make clothing, food, etc. for the rest of the world. Sentences are always 30+ years, but everyone whose ‘gotten out (by escape or finished their sentence)’ dissapeared. The rest of the world thinks robots make everything, and that people who go to prison just start a new life somewhere else. One person gets charged with a murder they didn’t commit and has to endure grueling conditions in said prison, while trying to solve their murder and get out.

You could go with a "utopian" future: world peace, no disease, wealth shared equitably, etc. But *something* is wrong. Think about how that "perfection" is maintained. Perhaps people who don't fit this vision are "reprogrammed" or killed off. Or maybe there's a secondary community of untouchables whose labor is used to sustain the comfortable living standards of the primary community.

Or you could do a "closed room" scenario. Start with a community that is cutoff from the rest of the world. Maybe it's a space station, a giant bubble on an otherwise uninhabitable planet, or underground/inside on Earth after something catastrophic ruins the atmosphere. Maybe they started off with rules, but differing opinions on how to move forward created tensions. Perhaps there's competition for resources. People would inevitably form rival groups.

Both of those remind me of 'The Giver' a very good book I highly recommend, I wouldn't mind reading more books with that kind of theme :)
Also quick note, I am home schooled and while my mom read us 'the giver' as a read aloud our dog named River kept looking up and we finally realized she thought we kept calling her name!
