A few weeks ago i placed a hide in the sand bath. After that, pancake uses her sand bath very often. She uses it the longest out of everything in her cage. I read somewhere that hamsters shouldnt do this since it is bad for the hamsters coat. She sits in for long periods of time. Should i be worried?

Pancake is using his sand bath....a lot

Hi! Sand is actually very good for hamsters, as long as it's safe of course. Is Pancake just sitting chewing / sniffing or excessively rolling around? Either way I don't think you have to worry but if he is excessively rolling that may be scent marking or he really likes sand baths, my past hamsters definitely liked theres!

It's not so bad for a hammy to love sand. If you are worried about it, one thing I do though is I clean my sand periodically. It cleans it, sanitizes it and takes away the "pee" smell. My hammys love clean the sand day. It's like getting a fresh batch of sand. Here's my video of how I do it.

I also find that if you can, replacing all your sand every so often can also be a good habit, and unlike changing the bedding in my experience my past hamsters loved fresh sand and I had the comfort of knowing it was clean and didn't contain any harsh chemicals from their urine (although tbh I cleaned the bath often enough that was hardly a concern)
I do know it is good for hamsters. I just got worried about him since he used his sand bath very often and read from somewhere that if they use it to much it may irritate the skin. I clean my sand bath at least every week since pancake always pees in his sand. Thanks!!

i clean the sand bath every week. (i dump the old sand and clean the container and refill) I will use this method either in between or week 1 (my parents don't want a sand bath in the oven but indonesias heat is an oven itself) will be this method and 2nd week i will dump the sand!! Thanks, this will help reduce the cost and i can save up for some more sprays!!

I don't know how hot it is there but I know for me, the one it I did air dry it, it took about a day and half. So you probably want to start first thing in the morning. I am in the north though. =)

I have to wakeup at 6 for school so this will not be a problem.

Sand baths for hamsters can help prevent skin parasites and remove grease and dirt from your hamster coat. If your hamster enjoys sand baths like that, don't worry as he does it often as it's another easy way to keep your little pet entertained. And a good way to get fit! Just make sure you keep the sand clean at all times.
