Hi. I was walking around Petland, and there was a pregnant hamster for sale. She was very pregnant, about to pop any day. I knew I couldn't leave her there so I brought her home to give birth. I will be rehoming all of the pups if anyone is interested, please PM me and I can give you my location. My question is what should I take out? The wheel is still in there and she has been using it for the last 3 days. I didn't give her a sandbags. But should I take out her platform? It is about an inch or two above the bedding and she is burrowing under it but I don't want the babies to fall. Thank you.

If she is very pregnant, you should probably take the wheel out now. And, newborn pups often don't go very far, and so the platform is OK to stay in.

 

And I am sorry, I live in Canada, and you live in the United States, and so I don't think I could go out and pick up a hamster that far away.

Poor momma! I mean I would leave the wheel in for her as long as there as no babies, otherwise, she could be bored. Removing the wheel is more for babies safety than  moms. Definitely no sand once the babies are born. I don't think they'll be able to get on top of the platform if it's a couple inches about the bedding. You could also fill up the bedding so it meets the platform too. Maybe you can swap it out later for a solid hide, if you are worried about it.

 

Make sure she gets some extra protein and fats for the babies. Some fresh veggies would be good too, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, etc.
