From 1995-1998, my aunt had a hamster named Squirt. Squirt lived 3-4 years in a tiny little critter trail cage. Although everybody loved her, including my aunt, eventually, her time came. She got so old that she couldn’t walk, let alone run on her wheel. Eventually it got to a point where she had to be put down, due to maggots crawling all over her furry little body. Of course, in 1998, hamster care wasn’t as advanced as it is now, and local vets in our area weren’t trained to be able to put hamsters down. My aunt had to find the next best option. She had a lot of other options for putting her down, but she chose, possibly the funniest, yet the saddest way possible. They took Squirt into the garage, started the car and left her in there. Of course, she was dead by time they went in there later in the day. Although it is sad of the state she was in, I thought this would be an interesting story to share. What was the weirdest way you had to put down a hamster?

RIP Squirt.

Rest in peace, little Squirt. God bless you.
