I’d like to start this off by saying that I respect the decision that dusty has made and I’m grateful that he’s kept the forum running for as long as he has.

I’ve learned so much from the two years I’ve been on HH. It’s amazing to see how vastly my care has improved because of this community. I went from tiny pet store cages and too-small bins filled with cotton nesting and pine bedding to large, naturalistic tanks and a 4ft by 4ft DIY with plenty of safe bedding and enrichment. I loved having a platform to ask questions and to share my own knowledge with others as well. There’s a countless number of thoughtful posts created by helpful people here. I’ll always be thankful for the members who took the time to answer my questions in a kind, patient way. I’m sure my hamsters would be thankful as well.

I also loved the social side of HH. I always enjoyed checking people’s blogs, entering contests, and reading some delightfully well-crafted stories. HH attracted all manners of kind, talented, and creative individuals. I’ve had the privilege of befriending some of them, and I’m very grateful that we ultimately ended up choosing to do most of our talking on platforms other than HH. If anyone else is interested in keeping in contact, PM me, and we can sort something out.

I always assumed that HH would be a constant, and that it would stay up for years to come. I remember choosing not to join TGASME this month, thinking that I’d join next month, and I was so excited to participate in my third CCC in the winter. There are so many posts I typed up, only to ultimately delete, thinking that there would be plenty of time for me to post another. It seems that hindsight is 20/20. I know others must have regrets as well.

I’m sure many members will join other communities after HH is gone. I’m part of a few other hamster groups myself, but none of them are quite like HH. I’m going to miss it, but I’m glad I got the chance to enjoy it for the two short years I’ve been here. I know that whenever I think back on the forum, it’ll be with a smile.

I guess this is goodbye. I know some of us may not have always agreed on certain topics, but I still appreciated what everyone had to say. We’re all here because we love hamsters and want the best for them, and at the end of the day, that’s what matters. I wish you all well, whether you choose to keep owning hamsters for years to come, or if you decide they’re not the best fit for you. It’s been a pleasure, but I suppose all good things must come to an end.
