I agree with all of you! I is a habit that definitely needs to be dealt with. I would recomend getting a bin cage or something instead of a cage with bars! A lot of times no matter what you put on the bars the hamster will chew through it until it is gone! It is aslo probobly stress too!

I agree! I don't think it would be good because you are avoiding filling your hamsters needs... they are showing that something is wrong and you aren't changing your care just stopping them from chewing.

To start out, bar chewing is NOT OK! This is a stress behavior that means they want to ESCAPE! If you notice your hamster is bar chewing, I would STRONGLY recommend upgrading their cage to be bigger & more enriching! As for the issue with wheels being too noisy,
1. DON'T block the wheel. all hamsters( especially robos!) need a wheel!
2. Get another wheel! From what it sounds like( correct me if i'm wrong) you might be using a hamster wheel that pet stores sell with their cages. These are usually WAY to small! Wodent wheels, Silent Spinners, & Nightangel are all brands that produce large & suttible wheels!( If those are still squeaky rubbing Veggie/Canola oil usually stops it) Hope all of this info helps!
( BTW, in germany hammy owners recommend that Robos & Dwarfs have 8 inch wheels while Chinese & Syrians have 10 inch wheels)
