It was just a slight nip then he ran away to eat something after that, i was holding a treat to be fair    (I bet my fingers looked like his food)  plus i think i did it way before he got comfortable in his habitat

More than looks, it was probably smell.

Maybe he isn't used to you sticking your hand in. I'd suggest you slowly start putting your scent in the bedding, and stick your hand in (not too often just yet) so that he knows that this will happen, and he'll adapt to it.

If it didn't hurt (much or at all) it was probably just a nip, and not serious aggression.

Oh that makes a lot of sense since I'm pretty sure  they have a strong sense of smell, i think i might just do it gradually Thanks !

I've found taming Mochi is a bit hard, he will let me pet him, when he's eating he's nipped me twice,  once probably  because I smelled like food and the second time i just had my hand in his cage! Now I'm a bit too scared to put my hand near his face , the rewarding treat system may work but i don't exactly know how to do it, anyone know how i can get him to stop nipping me?

Any tips for a roborovski who is terrified of, well, everything? Light on - immediately hide. Moving objects - immediately hide. Even went so far a couple of times as to hide when I moved something and because it was light during the day to stay for a whole day without leaving in a hideout far away from the nest!

Would trying to 'force' tame a couple of times be a 'reasonable' idea? Get her used to it?

We temporarily put her Detolf once near our Syrian's Detolf and the Robo, whose idea of living is exclusively running on her wheel, didn't come out for two days before we realised and separated their cages... Lol

sometimes hamsters just can't be tamed, and robos tend to be really skittish too! You shouldn't force it, that'll make it harder for you because she'll be stressed.

you could try sitting near the cage in the dark and talking a bit without trying to touch her at all to get her used to you being there and your voice, and she'd be more comfortable in the dark. then slowly build up from there until she's comfortable! :)

keep in mind that they really aren't social with humans the way dogs and cats are, and if she doesn't want to interact with you then you'll need to accept it and just enjoy knowing that she's happy rather than enjoying the interaction. it's hard but sometimes that's just how it is with hamsters :/

Thanks!
I would just like to say that if you don't want to put the scented tissue in your bra, or sock, you can just rub your (clean) hands on it.
Also, hamster balls aren't very safe (in my opinion)

Hi, I recently got a dwarf hamster but whenever my hand goes anywhere near the cage she will try to bite. I have tried treats but she will try and bite my hand instead of the treat. Do you have any tips on taming her?

Thanks!

How large is your cage? I don't like to jump to conclusions, but this could be cage aggression from a too small cage. You can upload pictures by imgbb.com. Does she chase your hand? Does she attack anything that goes in the cage? Is she OK outside of the cage?

We bought the largest cage that was available at the pet shop, but I hope to upgrade it at some point. I have only tried taking out of the cage a few times but she does still seem to bite. Even if my hand is on the outside of the cage she will try to bite through the cage. I have given her lots of chews and she does chew those but she seems to want to just bite my hand whenever it is near
