career, has told me the same thing has happened to rats...
they used to live to 3-5 years and now she sees them dying
all the time about 1 1/2 years old.
cause of death would be an interesting variable.

Here's your boxplot though
This is INCLUDING malloria's data, bringing the x-bar higher.

Q1= 8
Q2=median=15.6
Q3=24

Kinda like your second picture, but with a one month bin size against frequency.

You can split the x axis into sample bins, starting at zero, then binning data between 0 and 1 months, 1 and 2 months, and so on. That will work, and should give enough data points over fifty samples to form a rudimentary curve

Haha, that's too advanced for me :P

Even doing this, it doesn't seem to fit a bell curve much. I mean, maybe a little, but...well, see:

And Oh wow, I'm really surprised by that! I really thought we'd have more of a curve going on. Probably the small sample size has skewed the results somewhat and made it too "bitty". I wonder what a best fit curve would like on that graph?
This is all great work

It would also be incredibly interesting to see the average age of well-bred hamsters, average age of store bought hamsters, & the average age of rescue hamsters. (Even the average age of UK hamsters vs North American!)
Also, perhaps we could also collect data from other forums to make the results more accurate?

Thought I would add for when you update that my Hedges lived to 3 years 1 month.

UPDATE - The original post has been updated to include more data!
My first dwarf hamster, Blixa, lived until she was 3 years old
I would love to include your data, but I need a bit more information. What species was Blixa, and what year did she pass away in? Thank you for your help. ![]()

Wow. It's terrible how short their lives are!
My bet would be that their lives has been reduced greatly by mill breeding, which makes me even more passionate about adoping-not-shopping!

These all sound like amazing ideas. My concern is data. I would need a lot of data (probably from 300+ hamsters) to make this possible. ![]()

I know you just updated this, but if you update it again Poppy (Syrian) lived to 25 months and Finn (WW) lived to 4 months.
