I have a short haired Syrian hamster! He had a wheel that was too small for him and now he has some sort of sores on his back. This is not an emergancy, but he has had them for a while. Thank goodness that he isn't in pain or anything! He is acting normal, but how do I get rid of the sores? Any Ideas? Please reply!

Help! My hamster got mysteriously cut on the fold on his leg. No one was around when he got cut so no one knows what happened. I plan on trying the recommended ideas to help clean it. If anyone has any other ideas please tell me. My grandmothers friend who is a veterinarian and she said to put neosporin on it but I'm not sure. Any advise or words of wisdom?

KidKat, you can follow the followup treatment for flesh wounds.

CandyHammy23, do not use neosporin as hamsters will lick it off and it is not safe to eat.

My female Syrian hamster died of old age,

a few days before she died she started to slow down,

sleep a lot and when I held her, she was cold.

After she died I got another hamster, he is a

male Syrian, and I am re-using my females cage,

would that be okay?

Unless Charlotte had a contagious disease and you didn't clean out her

habitat really well, there shouldn't be any problem with Humphrey using

that same habitat. And since you describe that Charlotte was simply old,

there definitely isn't an issue with her house.

Thanks!

I was kind of worried,

Charlotte did not have a disease,

(We tested)

and Humphrey was not acting up or anything,

but I was just making sure!

My sister's hamster has ALOT of dandruff! And I mean ALOT!

My hamster who is younger than my sister's does not have any,

is this something that older hamsters get? Is it okay that he has dandruff?

Just wondering!

Just wondering!

no it's not normal. your sister's hamster may have demodex mites which live in the fur follicles, so you wouldn't see them on the skin.

why don't you open your own topic for this in the forum? this is a "pinned" topic that should probably have its name changed so others dont mistake it for a place to start their own topics... others have done this too. in reality this topic covers some common emergencies and what to do in those situations. :)

if you go back you'll see on the Ailments landing page there are some topics at the top, then under these are the members' topics they've started for their hamsters.

all hamsters do have fur shedding, so it's normal. it's only not normal if

there becomes any areas of balding.

My hamster, snicker, is 3 1/2-4years old and i notice today afterschool that he had one eye extremely swollen and dry. I checked on him this morning and he was fine. He also has stuffy breathing, he's deaf, and his other eye is sealed closed. I'm not sure if i should just put him down or fix him. I'm really scared that I'm going to lose by baby though, please help!
