I think the status' should come back :( there's no sense of friendliness on here now, no way to interact with people. It doesn't feel right.. I hope the mods/dusty bring it back soon :(

I agree with out the status it's less friendlier even if the status was back to 24 hour rule that wouldn't matter as long as people are sensible

Can I ask something?
I'm seeing a lot of comments about how the lack of statuses make it hard to socialize or get to know people...
... but isn't that exactly what you do on the forum itself?
I totally get how having the statuses was a nice perk but the status bar doesn't define the forum, does it? I mean, the status bar isn't how I learned about Hopping Hammy's photography skills, or Sycohearted's love of gerbils, or Word Weaver's mastery of writing. Some of you are fantastic artists, and some of you are wonderfully talented musicians.
There are members with awesome hair cuts in wild colors, there are vegans, snake owners, horse lovers, athletes... and I would have never learned those details about any of you guys from the status bar alone.
Something to think about

I totally agree with you. The status bar was a nice place to chat, but we can also learn about each other in all of the other parts of the forum. Can I ask something?

You know, I never thought of that. Instead of complaining about the status bar, we should stop complaint about things we can't change, we should be embracing it, it's a new challenge, finding ways to interact, and completely doable. This is a new adventure, let's show people what we can do.Can I ask something?

I agree, but the status bars eliminate the small chat aspect, now all we have to "chat" really is PM, which is kind o a hassle because it's not free for everyone to see, but only one person, I do respect the decisions the team has made, especially the wacky board and RP aspect, but the status updates, I feel is really what set this forum apart from others, now we're really no different than let's say Hamster Central, or any other forum. It might also add to the amount of spam/stupid topics being made, which to me seems harder to manage, since statuses are on the front page and topics can get a bit hidden sometimesCan I ask something?

May I ask a question as well? We've been reading through this topic and can understand where each side is coming from - really and truly. But.....
Are we all using this forum with the expectation of it being like a Facebook, Twitter, or other social media sites? Is the main purpose, that dusty made this forum, so that everyone can socialize with friends and chat about their day? Or was it made to spread information and care about hamsters? Hamsters are, and should be the main focus here.

There is another point that dusty's post briefly mentioned, but I'd like to expand on it a little. For most members, the status bar has been a fun way to interact and it probably seems like everything was going smoothly with it. But it really wasn't. At all. The amount of issues and broken rules, centered around the status bar, have been rather extreme. It is a fun feature for members, yes, but not for moderators. The extra workload it entails for us is not really fair of our time, is it? Wouldn't you rather see us interacting in topics, having fun, and being able to talk about hamsters instead of spending the large majority of our time handing out warnings, deleting statuses, and dealing with stress?![]()
It has been so, so stressful at times and I'm not saying that for members to feel pity for us, but please do try, at least try to see it from a different angle.
I love you guys very much and want to see things improve here.
I completely understand, but might I ask if these removed items will ever come back?

Yes, I've noticed that the mods have constantly been having to delete/lock statuses because they broke the rules or people were fighting. The mods have been working really hard on keeping the statuses nice and clean. It'll be nice for the mods to have a break from this drama.May I ask a question as well? I'm going to quote dusty on that
I don't know for now. I wouldn't say never ever. But I will have to see the situation on the forum for a while before making a decision.
And those of you who have RPs, if you want to salvage them and move them to a different site, Dusty was kind enough to leave them accessible here: http://hamsterhideout.com/forum/forum/107-role-playing/

Oh okay, that makes sense. I really do hope whatever happened blows over, and we can join together as an educational forum once more.

I see HoppingHammys point, but now people are going to post a lot more topics now, aren't those just as hard and manage and "moderate"?
