My favorite 'author' would be Ralph Homer (Better known as 'Homer'), though he was a storyteller for the most part. I love the Iliad and Odyssey. :veryhappy:

My favorite author is Steven Erikson, because wrote the Malazan Book of the Fallen. The first one, Gardens of the Moon, was incredible, and I'm now 1/4 of the way through the book. They're huge, but fantastically written. He never forgets to describe everything. He has just finished the seventh book, but there will be ten. If you have some spare cash, his books are definetly worth buying.

Well I got so many authors I really find great..
Here a list of my favourite authors:
Terry Pratchett, his Discworld books are just fantastic, he created a whole world, and each book is great on it's own!
Thea Beckman, a Dutch writer. She wrote fantastic books about history topics. You really get a feeling that you are in that time when you read them.
Clive Barker(?), he is still writing, the Abarat books. 4 books in total a serie. All are great books, filled in with his own drawing/paintings. It is beautifully written.

Well with that I got more writers but it would be to much:D
