Hey people! Um I’ve been writing a story currently and wondering if anyone would want to read it once I’m on chapter 5 or 10? It’s about a world with people who get their powers and that decides which district they live in and they can’t leave their own district unless they don’t have powers . It’s still in VERY early development and I did start writing only a year ago… Anyways I’m always looking for constructive criticism

Edit: I didn’t phrase my sentence well. When I said that I’ve only been writing for a year I meant that I’ve been writing in general for a year, not my story.

I've been putting off this WIP for, like, 2 months, because of a lack of motivation, creativity issues, and lots of plan changes..

 

But. 
 

I started today. I got like 300 words down at the time of this post. So I'm proud of myself. 

 

And I want y'all to be proud of yourselves too. 

 

Just get something down. You can edit later. Trust me. Just let your words come and run with it. Fix it later. Enjoy the process. 

 

You can't edit a blank page. 

 

And also. Some advice. If you're writing, be proud of yourself. It doesn't matter if it's *any good.*

 

Plenty of people dream about writing, and then never do. You've done it. So be proud. 

 

Oh and also. I'm reading PJO, so my prose has gotten even snarkier and weirder than usual...ahh...thanks rick <3333

I don't understand how you manage that's amazing, for 6 months - 1 year I've been struggling with writer's block and now it's escalated to the point where my energy is drained even trying to think of an idea. It's frustrating.

It really is the most frustrating thing. I always get hung up on originality, and I overcomplicate things with plots and character arcs oops

I'm almost done my second book. Hopefully people will want to read it (especially publishers!)

Guess who's bored and wants to rant about writing againnnn...

 

I'll give you a hint.

I've done a lot of writing over the past couple days. Well, not technically writing because it was all plot and character stuff, but it still counts because that's the part I can't seem to move past. I can't figure out a villain...like...I can't figure out a plot to make sense with a villain I want. 

 

Basically, here's my current idea. I'm sorry, I know it keeps changing, but I can't help it.

Hugo is a 15-year-old engineer born and raised in Daka, a tough but homely kingdom. His father has a huge bias against his engineering because he lost his wife (so...Hugo's mom q-q) years ago, due, in part, to her love of engineering. It wasn't all that, but bam. Association made. Nah, Hugo's father (Tyrus) wants him to become a warrior like he himself was back in his days of glory. The thing is, he can't just take away Hugo's inventing because it's the only way he really has to feel close to his mom, and oh boy, does Tyrus ever know how it feels to miss her. So despite the chaos of his machines and the (occasional) explosions that happen...he lets his son do his whole inventing thingy. 

 

Tyrus...really doesn't get his son. Hugo feels misunderstood and tense and kinda awkward around him, and it certainly ain't the healthiest dynamic ever. Hugo's Uncle Sebastian is the one he always turns to. He really connects with him, and the man listens to him rant and talk and even chimes in with some weird engineering ideas sometimes. Point is...supportive and loving uncle (my heart *sobs*). Hugo really looks up to both Tyrus and Sebastian, but he's definitely closer to one of them. He really just wants to make his dad happy, poor boy. 

 

I want Hugo to learn how to make his own path and do things he wants or needs to, not because he'll make people proud or satisfy them, but because it's the right thing to do for himself. That thing is engineering :DDD Basically, he needs to say, "no dad i'm doing my own thing," but less angsty, yk? And then I want Tyrus to realize that he can't shove his kid into a box the way he's done just because of his own personal trauma...

 

And road trip time. Hugo and Sebastian have to leave to go and...do something. I don't even have that figured out yet. Maybe something with magic? I don't know, but it has to do with engineering at some point ahh.

 

Wow, that's a lot...of trauma :DDD eh. it's fine. i'm fine.

 

Anyway. Something needs to happen. That moves this forward. Because. UHm. plots are difficult. I need something to kick this into motion, so I beg of you, if you have any ideas (any at all), I would literally kill for them <333333

 

Oh and i should prolly mention that this is fantasy <333

Maybe this road trip could have something to do with his father? So it's more of a gut-puncher because this whole journey is about his dad but Hugo needs to realize that he needs to do his own thing too, y'know? I have no idea how to make this make sense or actually be valid, as it's slightly late, but I wish you the best of luck!!

This probably isn't what you meant by it, but it takes me to new places so hmmm...

 

Hugo and Bastian could pursue a lifelong goal of his father's in an attempt to please him, only to realize that he needs to do his own thing....

 

I will definitely have to think of this.
